Hi, I'll be be picking up my black 1.6 CRDi 90 in a week.
I'm an Aussie living in France, so, whilst my colleagues have hardly heard of Hyundai, I've known the brand for a long time.  Not all for the good though... I think and hope things have changed since the Sonata my mum had 10 years ago that didn't stop breaking down.

I'm looking forward to picking it up but wouldn't mind some advice... I'll be picking the car up near Paris and then driving it home immediately to Montpellier which is 800km south of Paris.  Is there any danger in driving a long distance straight up and using the motorways (130-150km/h)?

Thanks

Hi Mycall ..

Welcome to the club.. Things have improved greatly at Hyundai in the last 10 years (for example the i30 was 3rd biggest selling car in Australia in April - and not just on price) Very high owner satisfaction ratings for i30 in particular...

Others on here might have different views but I think if you can vary yours speeds a bit and feather the brakes occasionally to bed them in, a trip like that should be o/k..

If you pull over for any reason after driving at those speeds just let the engine idle for a minute or so to let the turbo cool down (I would recommend a couple of 10 minute breaks for you and the car anyway -say every 2 or 3 hours)

Please post your impressions when you get home I know it is the lower power diesel but should still be a nice drive...

Hi Mycall,

Welcome to the i30 Owners Club  :)

Its best if you can vary your speed, so the engine is not at the same revs for too long at a time.

Welcome,

And it's great to find a newbie who will be getting a BLACK i30.

I wondered if they had stopped producing black as latest colour seems to be blue.

  • 1.4 Petrol Active I'm no expert, so please correct me if

Thanks everyone for the welcome and the advice for the trip home!

Wow, the 3rd highest selling in Oz... it makes me feel almost patriotic then ;) lol
I've been keeping my eye out for Hyundais since I started thinking about getting one and I have yet to see a single one (except for the test drive at the dealer).  The french are very loyal when it comes to cars, so a hard market to crack for outsiders.

Hi Mycall and welcome from Greece!
As others said previously, vary your speed using all gears and try not to exceed a certain amount of RPMS for that first trip. That's up to 4.000 rpms for petrol engines. Maybe someone more expert here with a 1.6 CRDi could specify this (i think he is called Wiki-Lorian :))
