Clock spring replacement buy genuine or not

I just bought my daughter her first car 2013 Elite (birthday yesterday and loves it) and have issues with cruise control set button (intermittent and volume down. from what i have read on forums (thanks all for inputs) i am guessing its the clock spring as buttons on each side of steering wheel. So my question is buy a genuine part or not. i have found some on ebay and auto stores (i rather support local). As it intermittent i dont think a clean and reset of plugs would help.

Hi, fellow SAer. I don't subscribe to the expense of 'genuine' quality being justified. I suspect too often the difference is just mark-up. Having said that, go local and feel good about it. Yes, if button functions are cross-talking, you have a clock spring task ahead of you.

Just for reliability I’d be choosing genuine, though purchasing via eBay should save some pennies compared to over the counter at Hyundai.

COVs could be worth a try also.

i did find a company in Tasmania Clocksprings Australia, i have emailed them my VIN as i have found 3 different part numbers. i dont want to pull apart the car to find the part number.

Just replaced cock spring and did not fix problem :crazy1: So i have the same problem i cant set the cruise control and the volume button. New fault finding the volume down button does nothing but the up but can now increase or decrease the volume (the cars choice which way).
All the other buttons work. i removed all the plugs and sprayed contact cleaner in them. Now looking for a second hand steering wheel, unless any body has any ideas.

In circuit with the clock spring is definitely the button panel in the wheel. I'd love a chance to try to invigorate its function. We had a 63in Panasonic 'The One', our last great CRT TV before going LCD. I kept it going a full 18 years thanks to rebuilding the button panel in the click-drawer below centre of the screen. The flexible plastic loom designed to carry the adjustment and tuning signals to the motherboard had developed a kink that disrupted the continuity of its tracks, resulting in random stuff like what you're seeing. Despite no circuit diagrams, I reverse engineered and completely replaced the panel and loom with a breadboard, resistor and cable loom solution and it soldiered on until it was time to give it away along with what had become its companion STB for digital reception.

It's fun pulling things apart! :crazy1:

... then again, that's what we RADTECH / ELECTRs do :)
