Richard Hammond quotes
"Thankfully, I'm not trying to answer that question in one of those irritating competition tie-breakers because I can't think of anything original, let alone witty, to reply.

The only obvious answer is "because... it's cracking good value". And it is, too."

Hamster writes a good honest review...I have looked into both of them fairly closely (but without driving either) the iX35 would suit me better than the new Sante Fe. If only the iX35 CRDi came in  6 speed manual I might have bought one (subject to a test drive)

Was down at my neighbours house a couple of days ago and they were saying that they wanted a new car to replace their Renault Scenic.

The replacement is for the lady of the house and she was busy telling me how she was thinking between the Ford Kuga or Nissan Qasquai.  I sort of listened to this for a bit as I was busy sorting out some issues the son was having on his laptop and then I brought myself into the conversation fully with "Let me throw a spanner into the works, have you thought about this?" as I brought up Hyundai UK website and the ix35.

Suitably impressed they went across to the dealer yesterday and can get a Premium with media pack for an overall £7000 less than the Ford or Nissan and yep you guessed it, the ix35 has better spec.

Only one drawback, the ix35 is selling like hotcakes (although I have yet to see one) and there is already a 3 month lead time.

She hasn't fully decided yet, but I have told her that if she is going to place an order that I will take them across, I want Hyundai Aberdeen to know that the £20k is because of my intervention and see what I can get out of it

If the Crdi ix35 came as a manual I would consider getting one (subject to a test drive) if i couldn't get a Diesel i45...

You don't have manual ix35 over there?

I've just driven ix35 a week or two ago with 2.0 CRDI 136hp - 6-speed manual gearbox. Great car. I just loved it and I like it more than the Santa Fe we have. It is smaller, but goes and handles really good. I must say that after driving 2.2 CRDI 155hp Santa Fe, the ix35 with 136hp felt like a little rocket. The thing I loved the most is that the engine doesn't "stall" at all. As soon as you press the pedal, the engine reacts and accelerates.. Don't know how to describe it, but when changing gears it accelerates immediately. Like it's not a turbo diesel (because the turbo kicks in right away).. Anyway..it felt really really great. Also driving fast on curvy roads isn't a problem for ix35. Oh and yes...if I didn't know, I would say it has at least 150 or 160hp. Those 136hp accelerate very good. How great it must go with a 184hp CRDI one..huh..

I've also driven Tucson 2.0 CRDI 136hp with (6-speed gbx) some time ago and you just can't compare the two cars. The ix35 is much much better, smoother.. Well, ok..the Tucson would probably be better for "off-road driving", because it's more robust and has more ground clearance, but..

I won' lie..I would really like to have it   Over here it's been selling quite well to.. These are the statistics for APRIL 2010 (SUV class)..I was surprised, but than again, I wasn't   Let me just translate some of the "numbers" from the chart below..

Name             Number of sold cars //  Average age (buyers) // Youngest buyer //  Oldest buyer  //   Male
Hyundai ix35            81                //      52y                   //         28y             //         71y         //   87,5%

We only get the option of a Manual (5 speed) in the 2.0 ltr base model ..

The CRDi models only come with the Auto which makes them less economical (and I have been spoilt with economy)

I tried the ix35 few weeks ago, really good car and fun to drive, I tested the auto petrol version.

The diesel is only available through special order, to expensive to have lying around :'(

So if you want to buy one, you cant test drive it first, you just have to place an order.

I recently had a short drive of the middle of the range iX35 CRDi I probably only drove 5 Kms but did a loop which included some steep hills and tight corners.. Apparently our iX35 has the same power and torque figures as yours.. I found it noisy with a firm ride and certainly didn't give me the Wow factor (didn't feel any livelier than my 1.6 i30 CRDi) To be fair the engine was cold....

I then drove a 2.4 GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) Petrol i45 which also had a "cold" engine over the same exact loop and liked the feel of that more (much quieter and quite lively)  :D

Mind you the wife and I have never been into soft roaders...
