Hi my speedo stopped working this week. Everything else on the cluster works, plus the lights behind the speedo are working.

Car is an FD 2012 diesel 6 speed wagon.

It happened after I picked up the car after a gearbox place replaced a seal on the gearbox.

I took it straight back and they took everything out checked everything they touched put it all back correctly again but still no Speedo. Then they hit the dash and it started working again!
They said since they’ve installed everything correctly then the problem is the car and not anything they did.

But after a few days the speedo is not working again and I can’t get it working no matter how hard I hit the dash!

Any ideas at all?
Has anyone had this happen to them?

Edit: the car is on about 196,000km
They checked for fault codes (I might have the wrong name for that) and everything is clear.

I can only suggest the work they did weakened a connection in the dash.

Yes please. I always look forward to learning from more sensible people, and I can't do that when it's handled like a secret.

Thanks everyone for the help.

FYI just an update with a bit of backstory to explain.

I had the gearbox rebuilt a few months ago. Then 2 weeks ago the seal gave up and the oil was flooding out and I only just made it to the gearbox place before the loss of oil would have killed the gearbox.
The seal was from Hyundai so they don't know why it failed but they fixed it under warranty.

This is when my original post happened above.
Today I discovered 2 issues with the gearbox and took the car back. They are going to fix them next week under warranty and also take another look at the speed sensor while they're dealing with the other issues so hopefully they can fix the speedo issue.

Thanks for the update. That's brilliant they are fixing it all under warranty. Be really good if they fix the speedo to!

While they fixed the other 2 gearbox issues, they pulled out the speedo sensor and took it apart. Some connections on a loom had corroded, like when an old battery has that green acid stuff. They cleaned it all off and the speedo started working again.
If it happens again it’s a low cost part to replace and easy to do too.
The gearbox guy said he hadn’t seen that happen on a newer car like mine, only on a 40 year old car.
