Hi,
Considering getting a Scangauge 11 for my SLX diesel.
I was wondering how these devices were being utilized:-
*on a day-to-day basis
*when problems occur somewhere in the car.

I was also wondering if a/c on and a/c off readings have been addressed with the latest Scangauge software.

Does anyone have a photo of the connection into the port (around the driver's knee)?

Thanks,
Paolo5

I use mine all the time. I use it mostly to monitor instantaneous MPG/LPK. I also occasionally check what the maximum temperature the water gets too during a day, and the maximum revs I have used.

IIRC the aircon issue was the fuel consumption figures were out when the aircon was switched on? I don't have this problem.

When I start up I have my SG on LHK, speed, post intercooler temp and water temp. Once Water temp has reached normal (84-87C for Diesel) I sometimes switch to either Manifold pressure or engine loading.

As for the air con issue, it's more related to servicing........ It almost seems a one service on, one service off interval for me. When it is present, with air con off the fuel conumption display (but not is) about 3-4LHK higher, turning the air con on, brings it back down to about the correct consumption. This also affects the engine LOD display, with aircon off it states the engine is almost at 100% (ie full power) loading. Air con on and it goes back to normal. You can compensate for the LHK by setting the adjustment when you fill up to the low 30% range. However this will mean whilst air con off the LHK will be correct, but if you turn the air con on it will then display considerably lower. Either way it will mess with the Trip meter function........Catch 22 anyone?

This problem as said before comes and goes with almost each service, so it has to have something to do with the ECU flash they give. I've mentioned it to my service centre and they couldn't explain it. So if you do throw in the compensation adjustment and then get a service which makes everything 'normal' you'll then have to readjust back to around 0.

I think it is worth the AUD200 I spent on it. I initially had it mounted on the lid (opened up) of the bottom compartment in the front centre dash (under the climate control) but I've now moved it onto the top of the dash in the little 'ditch' in front of the vents for the windscreen. Only problem with having it there is that it's in direct sunligh/heat. So I normally have a hand towel (which is also used for when the windscreen is frosty) that I put over it when parked.

I hope all of this helps.

Regards

Daniel

I have to agree with whitbomb07 100%. I have found exactly the same thing with my scan gauge on the SLX diesel manual. With the A/C off, the engine load is very high. It shows 99% ( maximum ) when it's obvious the engine is not a maximum load. This effects the fuel consumption making it read about 30% higher. It's not a fault with the scangauge from what I can see, it's actually a fault with the car computer giving out the incorrect data.

It's interesting that it goes on and off during service. I wonder what that could be. I haven't noticed that myself. Next time you get it back broken, maybe you should send it back until it's fixed.

My Scangauge11 is working well. I haven't had a service yet so haven't experienced the dreaded "flash" yet that can change the SG's accuracy.

As whitbomb07 said:-

My questions to those who have a SG that has been affected during servicing are this....Is the change to the SG's operation made because the SC is connected to the car's computer whilst the flash occurs....and conversely....if my SC (which reads accurately at present) is disconnected whilst the servicing/flash occurs, will it still be accurate after the flash when I reconnect it?

Thanks,
Paolo5

Unfortunately that won't help, I don't know about how they may do it for you, but for my servicings they use the port that the SG plugs into, so they have to remove it to plug there's in.
