I got an email advising that a reply has been posted by bigdirtysheep to a topic I was watching i.e. Replacing rear door lock....by BrendanP.  Let's name it Exhibit A for hits and giggles.

I click on the link provided in Exhibit B and it takes me to the topic originated by BrendanP (Exhibit C) but there are no posts by bigdirtysheep.

The problem is repeated in the email advising a reply has been posted by druggist to the same thread (D, E, F).
 
Can any of our computery guys advise what is happening and how to stop it?  I'm as good with computer tech stuff as I am with automotive electrics and women...rubbish!!

Druggists account still appears to be compromised and recently used so I've placed a full ban on it until Shambles can sort it out

Yep - as above.

druggist has actually been on and corresponding, to reset his credentials, so the most recent access ban can be lifted.

bigdirtysheep's account remains banned as he's not been active since Nov 2019, and with 0 posts is unlikely to return.

I only saw the second instance and shut down the account as admin, but when I spotted it, it was sitting as a new reply to a thread, so I expect everyone could see it.

Yep, thanks @TerryT  - another remote hack that's been resolved.

There are no credential loopholes in our software - these 'hackers' are using purloined passwords, obviously from compromised accounts.

As a single thread/topic is being 'passed around' the hackers, I'll change the topic number to confuse them.

FYI.  After almost two years on from my first post here, it's happened again to me. 

When I click on the link in the emails it opens the forum topic ('Dead battery...") but there are no reply posts.

Anybody else getting these phantom posts...or am I again, truly Special?

This is easy to explain, and follows the same track as the posts above.

Our "trash bin" is rapidly filling with posts comprising porn links. When we see them we delete them and in the trash they go.

If you have monitoring set up on such topics then you'll get notified of updates to those topics, but the content will usually have been expunged.

It's a sad indictment of the world we live in that existing members' credentials are being used to post this filth - it demonstrates how easily hacked members 'pooters are.

And yes, you are special to us.

Thanks for the explanation, mate.  I figured it was something like that but I posted anyway just in case something else was going on.

BTW, my wife says that only she's allowed to play with my 'pooter.

Thanks for quick reply.  All good, that post is gone. 

I tried reporting you but I had the same problems.
1.   The reporting page opens ok.  Photo below.
2.   A thin blinking vertical line appears which I had to draw in (red line) as it won't show in a screen shot.
3.  No matter what I tried, I could not type in a message at the blinking line or anywhere on the page.
4.  My keyboard works perfectly anywhere else.
5.  I tried clicking on the Submit button, hoping it might send a phantom alert but a prompt said I need to comment.

Try temporarily adjusting your theme setting to "dark mode" to see if it shows.
