Where's my backup keyfob?

My post complaining that the dealer who sold me my car won't give me a spare key.  Surely this is an important issue.  Is the i30 made in Norh Korea under the auspices of that government? This type of censorship makes me think that it is.  I have the problem that a dishonest dealer has spun me bullshit as to why I didn't get a spare key.  There was nothing wrong with the money I gave them, all I want is what is mine by right FFS.  Give my regards to Kim Jong Il

Hi Mick

Hyundai is a South Korean company, so it has nothing to do with censorship or dictatorships.

Without checking I guess you have bought a second hand i30 perhaps from 2007/08 when they did indeed only come with one fob and a spare "emergency" key.  Some of us who also have that era of i30 successfully campaigned to get a proper spare key/fob, however I am unsure if anybody has managed to get one as the second owner of an i30.................

Hey Mick! Slow down mate.

If your post was made between last Sunday night (8th Aug, BST) and Thursday, we have lost the posts - it was a forum issue and we all lost some posts. We haven't censored anything as far as I'm aware.

A spare key IS an important issue. Please remake your post.

Yes, I should have checked your history before replying, indeed as a new model it should come with two fobs as standard, as Steve said repost and we will see what advice you get for your corner of the world

There was about 4 or 5 constructive replies to your first thread until the unfortunate demise of our forum hosting system. Unfortunately we lost about 4 days of everyone's posts including yours.

Sorry mate, but the crap I've been fed about this key has destroyed my faith in the dealer, I can't abide dishonest behaviour when I have acted in good faith.  When the posts disappeared I saw red, my profuse apologies if it was a system error.  I can't believe a dealership would engage in this sort of penny pinching behaviour would jeopardise the great strides Hyundai has made in improving its reputation.  A satisfied customer tells one or two people a disatisfied customer tells hundreds! Needless to say they won't be getting my business for servicing despite being in a very convenient location.

No one else has complained about not getting a second key for a long time now (over a year). I suggest you ask Hyundai Australia direct what the problem is.

... I can't abide dishonest behaviour when I have acted in good faith...

Had you been the 2nd or 3rd hand owner, nobody on this forum would have backed you in your quest to have the specification of your CW "revised" to include a 2nd keyfob.

However, as a very recent buyer, the specification should include a backup plipper, despite what you might have been told by your supplier.

I have to admit to not remembering your original gripe, but I do have to admit to suffering from altzheimers, or maybe the odd glass of wine, or 17 .

Remind us of the details and let's see what we can come up with :D

I'll change the thread title, so we can avoid a potential nuking....

I purchased the car brand new on 31st July It is a i30cw SLX CRDI , I rang Hyundai Australia, they confirmed I should have received a second key fob and that the key fobs are readily available.  I gave HA my Name and VIN for the vehicle, they have said that they will contact the dealer. I cannot believe that a dealer would engage in this type of dishonest behaviour, can't they see that this costs them far more than a $100? keyfob in negative promotion.

It is a bit of a rigmerole (good word probably spelt wrongly though) for the dealer to organise a second key but given time I am sure they will fix it for you ..

They may have to get a spare fob from Hyndai Australia with a separate key tongue they then have to program the fob and get the tongue cut by a specialist key cutter.. took a couple of weeks for most of us to get a 2nd key organised (some of our UK member took months to get theirs...)

Sorry mate that is ancient history. Hyundai Australia have told me the car (2010 model) should have been supplied with two fobs. I was told on the day of delivery that there was a problem with the other fob, however the key insert should have been ok, it is simply a matter of fitting it to another fob. Hyundai Australia also told me that the fobs are available.  The dealer told me this morning that the 2010 model fobs are programmed differently than the older ones.  Is this true? who would know.  Anyway after phoning the dealer yet again my fob will appear tomorrow, the usual pantomine going on in the bakground with the service manager "about this poor man's key", "you have do something to help him"  etc etc academy award stuff  As I said before the i30 is a brilliant car, Hyundai have spent billions on trying to rehabilitate a pretty ordinary reputation, if indeed there was a genuine problem with this key, I could live with that, but to be treated like a fool is another thing.....end of rant

I can understand your frustration but is this the only problem you have had with the car and/or dealer.
Just to establish something before I continue. I am 62 years old and have spent my life in a branch of the automotive industry. So I'm not what you would call naive, nor inexperienced but I would suggest that if this is the only (albeit bloody annoying) problem, maybe you should just give everyone concerned the benefit of the doubt. Accept what you've overheard as genuine and acknowledge that, in service organisations, things do go wrong from time to time. But there are actually people there who care and will do whatever is necesaary to fix your problem.
But if you have been reacting like you did on this forum when it crashed but you immediately accused us of "censorship", rather than asking for an explanation first, then maybe you haven't helped your own cause.

If you are willing to accept sub standard service then so be it. A new car should come with two sets of keys, my initial mistake was when they asked me (to try and sell insurance) who would be driving the car I said "just me" the manner in which I was subsequently fobbed off and treated like a fool was what pissed me off like I was the typical "wood duck" customer.  Nothing was going to happen until I started to complain to head office. My conversation with the saleswoman who initially showed me the car was interesting and enlightening.  You can PM if you want the details.

^^^ Mick, I wouldn't accept sub-standard service either.
I'm just making the point that I have rarely had to jump up and down to get results.
But I never let go. I've prided myself in achieving my aims with tact.
Certainly not saying I've never lost it but it has only been when I've felt I've exhausted every other avenue. Found it easier on my blood pressure that way.

To be honest, I ask myself what the dealership thought it might get out of the idea of not providing you with a second key and I can't think of anything. If the fob was faulty, it's a warranty issue and they would get a replacement from Hyundai at no cost to them, plus a handling charge to cover their time in providing the fix.

Anyway, it's a shame you've had your first experience with these great cars soured by an unhappy experience.

My wife is more like you Mick and I am more like Trev...

I have always got a better response by being firm and persistent but tactful...

There is a very fine line if you want to get a good LONG TERM result..My wife will win the battle but not always win the war...

Like you Trevor, I have been in service type positions most of my life and try to put myself in their shoes when something goes wrong.. If they have to rely on others to help them fix it then it does not always happen as quickly as everyone would like hope or expect it to.. (end of rant)   :D

the key insert should have been ok, it is simply a matter of fitting it to another fob.

I only received 1 fob when I bought my car, some 3 years ago, and asked for a second fob  (detailed elsewhere on this site).

I asked the dealer and was informed - No just 1 fob provided with your build, but since you bought, all UK i30's have 2.

I rang HQ and was told - No just the 1.  So emailed the MD and by return of post I was provided with a second fob - as goodwill.

I didn't rant/rave or loose my temper as the 1 fob situation was explained and I accepted the explanation.  However, I decided to go to the TOP, as I had nothing to loose, and it paid off for me and for several others.

end of my non rant.

Like you Daz, I always try to put myself in the other party's shoes. (Bit hard to fit into size 5, 6" heels sometimes )
When I moved to Sydney with my company, I had been there about 6 months and one of the dealers on the Central Coast told me over a coffee one day that the dealers had nicknamed me "Trev the Doer" as a result of all the things I had got fixed for them since I came. I've never forgotten that, nor how good it made me feel.
"Trev fades out patting himself on the back"
One day I'll tell the story about "the other" Trev from many years before. :-[ :-[

I tried the nice and tactful approach for two weeks .....no progress, one day of rude and nasty and everything seems to be solved, I've been promised the missing key this afternoon when I pick up the car from the 1000km service from three different people, the customer service manager from the dealer who knew nothing about the problem and was very angry that no one had told her, the service manager and a representative from Hyundai Australia.

I'll wear that with pride, where poor service is concerned I am Satan. The dealer washed the car after the service whether or not this is standard practice it was much appreciated and has gone some way to making me feel better after the debacle of the last two weeks.
