Hello everyone!
I have some issues with the belt idle pulleys (at least one of them) - they are pretty noisy and I would like to change them. I've attached the image to show you which ones I mean. The original picture source is from this forum, an older topic.
During the yearly servicing of the car, they said that I need to change the belt and I said ok, change it. After that they said that the tensioner pulley needs replacement. I said ok, I will replace it some other time (as it seemed pretty expensive overall).
Well, because there was some grinding sound when I accelerated the car (regardless if it's in a gear or not) I decided to change the tensioner pulley, thinking that the bearing is bad. It wasn't.
I bought the part and yesterday I went to change it myself, it took around 30 minutes. During this time, while the belt was off, I turned the idle pulley next to the tensioner pulley and it really made a nasty grinding noise, so I assumed that it actually comes from this one.
Now I ordered the other two IDLE pulleys (circled in red) so I can replace them.
Because it doesn't seem as easy as with the tensioner, in order to do it properly, I opened this topic hoping that someone more experienced can help with the following:
- How to reach the top pulley, can I reach it from beneath the car or from the top, how easy is it?
- What is the turning way to take out the bolt, clockwise or anticlockwise? not sure which direction the assembly spins, I know it should be in the opposite direction, I drew the arrows, is that the right unscrewing way or the opposite?
- What is the torque to tighten those screws back?
- Should I replace the screws with HEX ones instead, would it be easier to unscrew in the future and what is the size and pitch for those?
- Any other things I need to take into account?
Thanks!
