G'day folks,

I've been searching around for info on the best way to prime a i30 GD 2015 diesel fuel filter after changeover, and there appear to be a number of recommended options. Does anyone know which is the proper/easiest/cheapest way to go?

- use a manual primer syringe-type handpump (about $120AUD)
- manually fill the new filter with diesel, fit it, and then turn the key to 'on' for 40 seconds before cranking
- according to an old post on here, you can... "do the most practical thing : remove the fuel pump relay and use a 20mm thin wire to briefly bridge the two PUMP contacts in that socket"

Affordable OBDs apparently only read, and don't give commands, so that's out?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I haven't done it yet on my car. Hyundai in UK offers what they call 'Essential' services for out of warranty cars which are reasonably priced and the fuel filter change is included. There's a few youtube videos available, it seems you can just keep cranking the engine and it will fire up eventually, but I think I would pre-fill the filter with fuel before fitting it, as long as you remember to put some fuel in a jerry can beforehand. It's not as straightforward as the FD diesel which had a plunger you could pump to prime it, but car-makers never miss a chance to make it more complicated.

My 2015 GD has a plunger primer - I was surprised after reading they didn't so many times. Have you actually checked to see if there's a primer or not? Also, there's 2 different filters - not interchangeable. Ran into that gem when I first attempted mine.
