Hey all, newbie to the group, looking for some opinions/experience if possible.

Bought an i40 tourer, 1.7 crdi less than a month ago from a trader. Reasonably high miles at 113,000 but 1 owner, full history, well cared for. Owned Hyundai's for 20 years and always been a fan.

700 miles of motorway driving since collecting it and yesterday, the oil level warning light came on. Stopped, check oil level and is too high. Parked up and check again this morning, oil still high and from my experience, looks thin for oil put in only 4k ago - car was last serviced at 109,000 miles. Drips off the dipstick quite easily and looks like oil is right up the dipstick tube as it gets all over the stick when checking.

My question is what to do next - was it too much oil at the service (but would it take 4k miles to bring light on?), do I drain the oil, replace at the right level and see what happens, or do I go back to the trader now as it's within 30 days and raise a fault with them? Cannot see the trader being receptive.

Appreciate any thoughts on what the cause is likely to be (DPF failed regen?) and what may be the best course of action would be amazing.

Cheers all!

If you purchased it from a used car dealer, then I would activate your warranty (if that's a thing in your country for used cars).  Otherwise do a full oil and filter change using the best quality of oil to suit your car, as soon as possible and see how you go.

Thanks mate, appreciate your thoughts. I've ordered an OBD2 scanner to read codes and see if it's anything more serious, do a full oil & filter change this weekend then see how it goes. If there is anything more serious in the background that the car shows in codes, I'll speak to the trader who sold it.

Appreciate the opinion!
