Hi people,

I've been going through the process battle of changing out my failing GD-02 head unit with an aftermarket Sony one (xav ax3200). I figured it would be quicker and easier to just buy all the patch leads and adaptor cables. How wrong I was. So after spending way too much on just cables, waiting weeks, spending hours scouring for any reasonable documentation/manuals (and realising it would have been quicker/easier to just wire it myself) I've got everything working except for the steering wheel controls. Apparently I would need yet another "patch cable" for that because a "steering wheel" control harness isn't enough to give you steering wheel controls.

Does anyone know about the steering control output on this model, 2015 CRDI diesel with GD-02 head unit?
Specifically can I wire the output directly to the cables provided with the Sony head unit?
Do I actually need the Aerpro dongle thing? If so does anyone know the wiring for it?
It looks like there's also connections for a camera on it but I already have that working.

Solved it!

No need for some fancy control box.

You can just connect the supplied cable to B4 (steer control) & B17 (gnd) then turn on the custom controls in the Sony unit, hold down the buttons and program them.
Everything was working except Mute but I reprogrammed that to pause which is way more useful for me.





I ended up just cutting and soldering these 2 directly to the steering input cable that came with the new head unit.

With how many patch cables I needed to buy, how confusing it was to figure out and how expensive it was I would honestly just recommend anyone with even the tiniest but of soldering/crimping skill to just bite the bullet and make their own patch cables or wire it up directly. For the most part things could be connected directly looking at the old and new head unit wiring diagram.

I can bin this piece of expensive junk.
