Hi all!

Been wanting an i30 for a while, and now that we replaced my wife's car for an impending arrival... she got one :(
I walk to work so no new car for me!

We just bought an ex-demo i30cw Sportswagon (wished it was a CRDI) which is being delivered to us on Friday (we are 80km from the dealer we purchased it from). I didn't even get to test drive it so am looking forward to getting to drive it soon!

I'm hoping to get as much advice/information from here as I can.

Hi Speedster.. Welcome to the club..I'm in Tassie but have quite a few family and friends in Perth (was only there a couple of days ago)

The CRDi is a great motor but a Sportswagon will still be very nice (they look great) don't forget to post some photos (but as image links as per welcome thread - not as attachments)

Need any info or guidance just ask .. we love to help

Thanks all. :D

I got offered a test drive... after we got back to the dealer! I don't think it would have mattered, she who must be obeyed was buying it whether I liked it or not :P

As for pics...
http://www.carbuddy.com.au/HYUNDAI-I30-CW-SPORTSWAGON-2.0-FD-MY09/car/307730.aspx

That's the dealer ad of the actual car :)

Just a quick q on window tinting - any recommendations?

I called Tint-a-Car for a quote, $495 for Octane seems a bit steep considering larger cars can be done for the sub-$400 range.

Hi and welcome Speedster ..... It's a nice classy car the Sportswagon and you get all the goodies to play with too. You can see where I live and I've just purchased (8 weeks ago) a 2010 MY2011 hypersilver 2ltr auto petrol cw trophy from JH in Vic: Park who were exceptionally good to deal with, I haven't driven it much as yet (1350km) but I'm really pleased with it.

I've added a few items to it window tint (I'll come back to that) reverse sensors (inc deal) I believe your comes with them, Dash mat and i30 floor mats, ipod cable (inc deal) Mud flaps x 4 ex Hyundai $75.00, Stylevisors x 2 ex Hyundai $70.00 both items ex fitting.

The window tint I had done at 'tint a car' a special price of $350.00 (friend of a friend deal) I had Octane (darkest legal 35% light tran: 25 year g tee) for driver and passenger front windows and other windows x 5 12% light admit: transfer ...... you cant really see in but still good to see out of at night. 'Tint a car' walk in off the street 'haggle' book price for Octane is $400.00 so all I saved was $50.00 and I'm very happy with the results.

Well all the best Speedster I wish you well hope this is of some use to you and watch out for those cameras   8)

Thanks Ozbrum... we seem to have both gone out of our way to get an i30. We're in Ellenbrook and went down to Rockingham!

Yeah, ours has the reverse sensors and we got them to throw in floor mats. iPod cable I just got for $20 off eBay from Singapore. Interesting that the haggle price for tint is $400, if I can get it down to that I'll get it done. Dealer wanted $500 for their "Cancer council film" but I was certain it could be done for under $400...

Wife gets to take it to work tomorrow (delivered AM)  :-[  but I've negotiated to do the driving for where we're going Saturday :D

Hi Speedster and welcome!
No matter what, don't let a car (even if it's an i30) interfere with your marriage :D
This would be such a defamation.

Hi again Speedster.. Shop around with the tint $400 still seems dear to me.. Extreme recently did my Camry Htybrid for $350 with Black Azz (think that is how it is spelt) and previously got an i30 hatch done for $280 (in 2008)

Thanks for your reply Speedster, Ellenbrook to us is like in a land far far away even with our new freeway connections but I know Rockingham Hyundai and it is a new or relocated dealership part of the AHG group which is about a 35 minute drive from us .... If I was buying a car from them ... I would say Don't vandalise the duco above the rear Hyundai badge with your graffiti of 'AHG-hyundai' but you may not mind this and it could be just me ?

Speaking of window tint .... maybe it's gone up a lot here in resent times ? When I had my iload crew van tinted by 'tint a car' in late 2008 and had darker than legal  (about 15%) on the front driver and passenger windows and both sliding doors plus back window 'limo tint' (5%) it only cost $300.00 and they were all big windows (you just pay cash and no receipt) But it was a good leaning curve .... It was extremely hard to see at night and I wouldn't go that way again  8)

  • Sorry, but my karma just ran over your dogma.
Hi and welcome Speedster. You've brought a beautiful set of wheels. It looks like you are already getting some good information form the forum. Believe me there is a heap more in the older posts too.

I have to agree with Duke. You have to either get a job further away so you can get an i30 just for you OR get your wife to get a job closer to home than yours, so she can walk to work
