We're having terrible weather at the moment and I am using my wipers a lot. I'm not really 100% satisfied with the current ones (OEM) so looking to replace with something better if possible.

Anyone got recommendations? Function is more important than cost.

 you've only had it 11 weeks or so

Are your current ones worn? Mine are the original flat silicon blades and they're top daddy. Could it be your glass that's greasy?

My blades are over 3 years old and still wipe as new.

Yesterday I had to wipe the blade down as they smeared but after the wipe down they cleaned as new.

What type are they?

see this thread for more info:

Mine are the originals and are now 2.5 years old and wiped the snow away fine today, as suggested I would be tempted to give the screen a clean and see if that helps.

Sounds about right, but I have 13000 km on it already :)

I don't think they are worn, it's just that I find they tend to leave a lot of water/streaks on the glass.

I'll try and give it a clean and see if that helps.

Not all markets get the same design of blades we do, someone reported have bulk- standard single blades some time ago.

On that subject, I only recall "sweetbix" having clamshell-type wipers. Thought the vast majority had the single-wipe silicone style.

This is interesting. I didn't think standard wiper blades were silicon based. I've always paid more for a good set of silicon blades (and happy to do it). Two reasons for this. Firstly and most importantly, to ensure a good clean wipe of the screen. And secondly, the ones which are sold as silicon based never squeal.
I would have thought the standard ones didn't have silicon. They always come across to me as more of a "graphite" type feel.
Maybe someone who knows more about it can clue me up.
Also, after trying the twin blade type I haven't need them again after going to silicon based blades.

I might do some googling when I get a bit more time.

Another observation - in the auto business we've found the basic mass market black refills will almost always provide some squeal on Mazdas and Subarus (at least). The silicon wipers don't give any squeal even on those two problem makes. Previously we had to buy "genuine" blades to keep customers happy.

My wiper blades are the lowest of low quality. Hyundai need a big kick up the bum for serving up such shoddy blades. From day 1 they have been nothing short of useless. When i had my service i was talking the head mechanic and he said that everyone complained about them and he had replaced under warranty some peoples as many as 6 times. I said to him i would go after market and not to worry about changing mine.

I'm sure we don't all get the same sort of blades then.

The blades I had supplied as new on the car are bosch aerotwin or something similar, all one piece backs, no extra arms. they look this, but without the waves breaking.

^^^ Thats the style I bought to replace mine with, what they came with was that old cheap metal frame type (multiple arms) you see on very cheap or old cars

Like this - http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4/Auto/AutoParts/WiperBlades/PRD~0210800P/Metal%252BWiper%252BBlade.jsp?locale=en

I guess Hyundai in Australia decided to cheap out on us

Yep. Mine are the cheap multiple arms type but I have to say, after 12 months I haven't had any problem with them. They wipe the screen clear, with no marks and no noise. I'm a bit anal about wiper blades as they are so important on wet nights and the moment they lose the "new' quality, they'll be replaced.
Care of the blades is important of course. Keep the screen free of leaves, dirt etc when parked, wash them carefully when you wash the car and, where possible, park out of the sun. (In Oz )
Having recently been in the colder northern climes, I reckon frost/ ice wouldn't do them much good either.

^ Like Surferdude mine are working fine at the moment, I just hate the look of them...

P.S. One problem is that when I bought a set of the other style off ebay from the UK (cost maybe AUD$25 delivered) I discovered the connection is different for the AU arms, so I am now waiting for the little connectors they sent me to arrive..

I spent a fair bit of time in Canadian Tire outlets. Should have looked more closely. Could have brought a couple of sets home.
Canadian Tire do much much more than just auto stuff. Check out their catalogue some time.

Mine always seem to leave lines across the windscreen.   The first couple of times I thought I had something caught under the blade, but there wasn't anything.  I am getting my 30k service next week so I must remember to mention it.

Before you do that kittikat give the blade a good wipe with a soft cloth dipped in some metho if they still leave lines go to somewhere like Supercheap or Autobarn (I think they will fit new ones for a couple of dollars if you buy the blades from them) The dealer would charge top dollar for the blades and a lot more that a couple of dollars to fit them...

Doubt Hyundai could charge as much as Honda tried to charge me, they wanted to charge $67 to replace the two blade inserts..
