Pretty awful footage coming out of the South Island of NZ.  Do we have any members down there?

Also, I saw some footage of the hurricane associated with the cyclone in NW western Australia on th enews tonight. And I'm pretty sure I saw the rear of a CW with the hatch window smashed. It was only a fleeting glimpse. I'm sure we DO have a member or two up that way.

No members have admitted to living in the South Island .. in fact we only have 3 or 4 NZ members all up..

My Eldest Daughter has a Cousin who lives in Christchurch and his Dad ( who is an "ex" Brother-in-law) trying to find out if they are OK via Facebook..Pretty bad this time  :'(

I'll check out the Google map and send some PMs if any active members are up that way..

Edit: Only MelWA up that way and she is well Inland so should be fine  :goodjob:

What surprised me was the amount of brick houses there, I thought that was a no-no in a earthquake area ???

There have been bigger earthquakes here and all houses sustained that, today we had 3.2 and 4.2 quakes.

I hope they tear down all the brick houses and build houses with iron bars in the walls, think it's called reinforced concrete.
Although it costs more it will save lives.

Hemmi, although the quake wasn't that big (in fact it was smaller than the one that hit there in September last year) it was the fact that this one was shallow....

visited christchurch last year and it really is a pretty town - especially in that tourist part where that lovely church is. was quite shocking to see the footage of it all. :(
i remember seeing quite a few stone homes, not brick ones though - but i wasn't there to check out the houses heh
