Hello i30 owners, I ordered my brand new i30 slx crdi and it will be available for pick up next week :)

This is the first time I'm getting a new car and I have been told by my parents and friends that:
1. I can not rev it too high within the first couple of kilometers
2. Can not take it for long drives within the first couple of kilometers

Can anyone help me out and confirm the comments above?

Thanks, Rek

p.s its a silver and a manual

Welcome Rektanaku

These questions have been asked before:
1. the advice is to just drive it normally but not to over rev or labour the engine.

From memory I think most tend to nurse the engine along for about 5,000 k's.

2. Long drives will be good for the engine but not to keep at a constant speed but to vary the speed from slow to fast but again not to red line or over rev.

Welcome Rektanaku

You will be very happy with your silver manual Crdi, I know as I have one and am very happy with it!
Exciting to get a new car... Enjoy it, you will a happy person for quite some time... :winker:

Your parents are giving you good advise as the initial period is important for the life of the car. The modern engines are very good and don't require a lot of work to bed them in however do not over rev the engine just drive normally which usually gives your engine a good range of revs particularly in general Sydney traffic.

Welcome Rektanaku..

Your car is exactly the model and colour I wanted when we bought our first i30 in early 08 (very nice choice  :goodjob:)

We ended up with a Moonlight Blue colour (now discontinued) Manual SLX CRDi which we had for almost 2 and a half years  :brilliant:

You will not be disappointed.

As the others have said just drive normally and the car will be fine (It is just as important not to labour the engine as it is to not over rev it) so don't change down to 4th or 5th gear too early (try and keep the revs between say 1600 and 2500 as much as you can - once the first 1000 to 2000kms are past you can relax a bit more)

Edit: Don't worry about driving on longer trips.. the CRDi is such a treat to drive a few of us did 1000kms in the first week (or even weekend) of ownership
