Touch up tips?
May 17, 2011, 13:00:59
Hi, just ordered the touch up kit from here for a couple of stone chips on the bonnet and also a scrape on the corner of the rear bumper.
http://hyundai-i30.sgpetch.co.uk/pages/accessories/detail/model=47/category=touch-up-pens/accessory=Continental+Silver+-+Metallic/id=10403
The kit comes with the colour touch up and also a clear lacquer. Wonder if anyone who has used these has any tips for applying?
Thanks

A big Welcome Phil
Haven't used that particular one but my tip is to shake well then wipe as much paint off the brush/pen as you can and apply very sparingly.. two very light applications (if necessary) would be better than one generous one. Wait untill that is completely dry then a thin coat of clear

I have the Mica Black equivalent (cost me £5 from the dealership).
Forget the internal brush for the stonechips... get a toothpick and use it to apply tiny droplets.

Yeah I have used it too... I second what's been said already, especially DON'T used to supplied brush. It's thick and clumsy and the paint is thick and goo-hi (SP?)
(senior moment)... Either invest in a child's paint brush trimmed to a neat point or what Shambles says for stone chips sounds OK... Little and often I think is the received wisdom here, then same again with the lacquer coat. Good luck
