Hi Everyone, I am from Perth, Western Australia. We have recently took delivery of our new MY11 1.6 Petrol Auto Hyper Silver. Built date was Aug 11 so it is literally fresh of the boat. We traded our 1998 Toyota Camry V6 for this smaller hatch back. Auto as Missus only drives Auto.

What swayed us to i30 was largely due to my experience with my current 2006 Accent 1.6 5spd which is my first Hyundai. It was well built, reasonably economical and what you might call cheap and cheerful.  Just had its 5th year service done last month and have covered just over 65000km, still going strong but not looking forward to the timing belt change at 90000km or so, apparently it is a quite costly service.

We waited 2 weeks to take delivery of our new vehicle.  Dealer tried to up sell their ‘protection package’ Paint and fabric protection and window tinting for $1400. I said no. She was very pushy but I stood my ground and said NO.
I knew exactly what I wanted when I walked into the yard. So there’s no chance they can sell me anything that I didn’t want.

I applied paint protection myself using Meguair’s liquid wax, I have been a big Meguairs fan for years.
Installed a set of mud guards myself purchased from dealer at a cost of $99, Sprayed seats and carpet with 3M’s scotchguard fabric protector $12 from Coles.  Will get window tinting done bit later with 3M and have booked a set of reverse sensors via Car Kit Company $360 installed (colour coded)

So far we have covered about 400km in our new i30, found its performance adequate and at freeway speed 100km/h it revs just under 3000rpm, my 1.6 accent at 100km/h with 5sp manual is reving at 3000rpm as well.  Interior plastic is typical of Hyundai, just like my old accent door trim plastic are very prone to scratches but overall refinement are much better than my accent. Like most other members of the forum that have already noted, road noise from tyre are quite noticeable. Missus is very impressed with Bluetooth telephony system. I personally is  against using telephone whilst driving even with handsfree.

Also good to know is that 1.6 petrol has no timing belt so less maintenance in the long run.

Happy and safe motoring everyone!

Hello Smartie, and welcome to the forum. We have people from Mandurah and Rockingham on here. Whereabouts do you hail from. Also what is the company that you are getting your reverse sensors from. I'm thinking of installing them on mine.... :welcome:

Thanks Neptune, I am from Canning Vale.

The company that will be doing the reverse sensor installation is  http://www.thecarkitcompany.com.au/
They look half decent on the website. I have placed an order and they are meant to have the sensor sprayed and ship to their installer in Perth then they will contact me for installation.  It's been a week since i placed an order over the phone (they didn't ask my credit card detail just my phone number and address)

On hindsight probably could have done a groupbuy for i30 owners in Perth wanting to have it done.

I figure it's still cheaper than replacing the bumper... missus and her driving.....  Let's not go there

Hi Smartie and welcome (I fixed your flag - hope you don't mind  :winker:)

I am in Tassie but have family in Perth and even helped out at one of our shops in Cannington for a couple of weeks a few years back ... :goodjob:

i30's sell better in WA than just about anywhere else.

You will notice a big difference economy wise compared to a V6 Camry  :whistler:

Not a problem, will keep you posted. Another note, i notice a lot website seem to quote the paint code for Hyper Silver on i30 as MAD
the one we have paint code on the door trim says N5S.

Thanks Dazzler.  i30 does seem to sell better in WA. Ever since we picked up our hyper silver i30, they are just about around every corner you turn.  Yes, we are expecting better economy, we drive 60/40 perhaps 70/30  highway/city  so even on a V6 camry it's actually not too bad.  For a car that is relatively heavy the performance of the 1.6 is not too bad, it can keep up with the traffic without a problem without pushing it too hard.

Also good to know is that 1.6 petrol has no timing belt so less maintenance in the long run.

I think it has a belt. The 1.6 diesel has a chain.

Pip, if this list is to be believed, it seems the 1.6 litre petrol engine does indeed run a timing chain...... :goodjob:

And welcome from another Perth hyper silver owner. I too will wait and see how you like the reverse sensors. It seems to be a good price. The Morley Hyundai dealer was offering tint at $300 the other day.
