When I first had my car I was troubled by a rattle from the rear hatch. Following advice from this forum I learned how to adjust the stops and get rid of the noise. However - the result was that to close the hatch properly required a firm push - verging on a slam.

A few months ago I went to the car one morning and found the battery flat - investigation revealed that the rear hatch was not fully closed and the boot light had been on for more than 24 hours. This happened again some time later so I removed the boot internal light bulb to prevent a re-occurence. Since then I have been paranoid about checking that all doors and hatch are fully closed when locking the car - the flash of the indicators being final proof.

This morning I went to the car and the battery was too weak to start the car - I found that when "management" borrowed my car yesterday (her i10 not being big enough for the weekly shop)she had not closed the hatch fully. There is still no bulb in the boot internal lamp - so why this should discharge the battery in just 18 hours I have no idea.

Any clues anyone...?

Correct me if I'm wrong but if ANY door or the hatch is not closed properly, the blue display remains lit. If so, there's 1 item that remained on. If that's on, there may also be other electric consumers active as well. I don't know how the display is back lit, I thought it would be led or oled which shouldn't cause a flat battery in that time IMO.

rather than remove the lamp altogether, why not buy an equivalent brightness led bulb which will consume much less power.

If you know someone who can solder, you could also put a little audible device that is energised by the light circuit.
