Sad to say, my brand new i30 is now in the panel beaters after I crashed into a pole in a parking lot...Although it's more complicated than me just stupidly crashing into a pole...haha.

I had been given the morning shift for work, and it was 5:30 in the morning and I entered a parking lot in the city.  And let me say although parking in Perth is cheaper, it is shocking trying to find a car park. But being early in the morning, there were plenty to chose from. Being pandantic about where I park my car, I saw a spot at the end, so where I parked only one other person could park their car next to me, and I'd park as far in as possible giving them plenty of room to swing their door open if they're careless...cause I hate seeing dents on the door of my other cars where people have swung their doors open..so disrespectful.

Anyhow, pulled into this bay, and heard a crackling sound...a pole was jutting into the bay! It had obviously been bent because something run into it. Anyhow, the front passenger door and window will need to be replaced- the window was smashed and luckily the tint held it together, so glass didn't shatter into my car.

I've had my i30 for about 3 months. I bawled my eyes out! So angry with myself. Anyhow, what really got me was the $1000 excess for insurance, cause I'm under 25!! (I'm 23...:()

Just thought I'd let you guys know...don't be a dork like me and pay attention when you're driving your beautiful cars! I'd hate to see the same thing happen to any of you!

Hi Nessa. As above, sorry to hear that, but these things do happen.

I recently had my windscreen replaced and it hurt like hell. Then, two days after that, I got hit again with a large stone.

I know how the pain feels, brother.

Hi Nessa,
That's very sad to hear.  Hope you are ok?!!!!
Accidents happen and the little car can be fixed so long as you are fine.

Take care   8-)

Hi Nessa,

Very sorry to hear about your damage. I can relate to that I scratched a Mag wheel once trying to keep away from parked cars...(not on the i30)

$1000 excess ouch - so the damage was more than the excess (big parking bingle)

Hope they do a good job and your luck changes...

Glad the handle covers worked for you.

Cheer,

Hi Nessa,

I feel your pain! I rear-ended someone ONE week after receiving the i30 :( I think i misjudged the braking required because when you brake when you're in gear it almost feels like its still accelerating at low speeds. I guess this is why its so hard to stall the i30 and i've never experienced this with other cars before.

I was expecting the worse with insurance but was pleasantly surprised that i was hit with a $300 excess charge even though i'm 23(CGU insurance

Question.
Don't you know your excess at time of buying insurance?

In UK, when you buy insurance there is usually a compulsory excess.  But you can reduce the insurance premium by opting for a larger excess.
The amount of excess is detailed in the insurance document so you know what your liability is at the time you buy your insurance not after you have submitted a claim.

I just hit the back of a 4wd (The spare tyre holder) yesterday in my current car, felt so stupid! All I was thinking was lucky I wasn't in my future i30. The lady said it happened to her 2 months ago, $1000 for it :S so I'll just try pay cash instead of claiming which would be around $900 excess.
