In Tapatalk I told it to put that message at the bottom saying "Sentt from my etc etc". But it's not showing up I guess.

Does not show when I post from TT.

Think shambles did a mod to remove this.

My youngest son just bought himself an iPad mini with his birthday and pocket money.  He loves it!!  We picked it up from JB Hi-fi for $325.  It was online at Kogan for $289, but on checkout there was postage of $35 with a shipping time of 1-2 weeks!!

He has also learnt the benefit of saving (I pay him to help me mow the lawn).  Like many young children, money used to burn a hole in his pocket, but all credit to him, he learnt that if he didn't spend it as soon as he got it, it would add up and he could buy what he wanted.

Trev, I revisited the slow Tab performance and did the following:

Reloaded the operating system and it now runs a lot faster and is quite useable noting these mods are not for everyone... there are risks.

I then changed the device settings so it didn't turn off the screen all the time. Naturally there's five apps that do that but if you go into device settings, screen settings you can turn daydream on for when it does go to screen save, screen timeout to 10 minutes to extend it, and enable smart screen so it never shuts the screen down while you are using it.

On the tablet it uses the camera to detect when its in use.

Enjoy.

Thanks Keith.  I have no problem with the speed.  If anything its quicker than my laptop.  All good so far.

OK. I've been playing with this a bit. Not in a hurry, really. I just wanted to get used to operating one. As it turns out it's very similar to my phone (Galaxy S2 - and my daughter's S5), so seems pretty good ATM.
Although I had a Google+ account before I never used it, so I've set that up.
Added just my main e-mail address. Contacts seem to have come in automatically.
"Play Books" wouldn't recognise my collection of e-pub books so rather than mess around with it I downloaded Aldiko which works fine. Again, it's only a back up to my Kobo at this stage but obviously will only take the Samsung if I travel.
Web browsing is fine. As is the predictive text which I learnt to use on my phone.
I've activated Tapatalk but I really don't see the need for it, although I'm still experimenting to see what its capable of. Maybe someone who uses it could give me a quick rundown on where it fits into the scheme of things?

Although I haven't researched it yet, I'm puzzled as to why it won't play short vids and things which appear on facebook for instance. It's not a big deal but is there a simple way to make this happen? I'm only thinking ahead to any travel really.

I have a 4GB card in there but obviously need more if I'm to watch movies. I've downloaded a short movie from my files and it works fine.

Tapatalk has a mind of its own (I might let someone else explain that) Every 2nd update seems like a backwards step to me!

As far as the video is concerned I would download VLC player (free) and make that your default player...

Thanks Daz.
VLC downloaded and running. Well it runs my surf cams.
Still says I need adobe flash player to run vids in facebook. Which it then tells me isn't available for my device.
Plays Youtube vids though.

Since android version 4.0.1 flash has been unavailable and Google Chrome no longer support it, the system now uses HTML5.

If you want flash you would need to install a third party browser.

http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appsverse.photon

That browser is add supported by the way but there are many more here https://play.google.com/store/search?q=browsers%20that%20play%20flash&c=apps

When I bought my Kobo e-reader a while back, I found a hard cover case for it at Big W for $10.
Here's a pic.

So, recently I wondered if there was something similar for my tablet.
K-Mart had one also for $10.

But just below it, for $15 was this. Case AND keyboard. Bargain.
