My car came with free 5 yr membership of the RAC. All you get though is a telephone number to call and a reference to quote when you call them. I just wondered if anyone had availed themselves of this service and whether they were treated the same as a 'normal' customer?

From what i know the number you are given is different to one anybody else would contact outside of Hyundai RAC membership. Pretty much its exclusive for Hyundai customers etc.

Know of a few people who brake down, use a general number, and then get charged, despite being a Hyundai Customer/member.

not sure how they treat you unfortunately, hopefully good :)

Yes I used it quite unintentionally one day....

My car refused to start, it was a silly thing in which I must have left something not closed properly, anyhow I phoned the RAC as I am a member and when she asked me what car she asked for the registration which I gave her and her reply to that was, you're automatically cover under your Hyundai warranty deal....

Sounds good, did you call the Hyundai RAC number, or the general one out of interest?

least she knew you were covered and didnt rip you off

From reading the blurd it would seem that cover is provided only for roadside assistance.  However, when reading the conditions fully it includes At Home and a limited Relay.
The later is not made very clear in the headline statement......

Roadside Assistance Programme - Passenger Cars UK and Channel Islands
As part of the Five Year Triple Care package, our Roadside Assistance Programme provides fives years of free, 24-hour roadside assistance should your car break down anywhere in the UK or Channel Islands - even at your home address.

•Where the vehicle breakdown is away from home and the recovery operator deems recovery of a vehicle necessary, only one journey from the point of breakdown to the nearest Hyundai Dealer, or onward destination, will be provided. Further recovery of any kind will not be available.
•Where the vehicle breakdown is at home and the recovery operator deems recovery of a vehicle necessary, only one journey from the point of breakdown to the nearest Hyundai Dealer will be provided.
•In the event of the nature of the breakdown preventing the vehicle from being repaired by the Roadside Assistance service, recovery of the vehicle, (including the driver, up to five passengers, and any attached trailer or caravan) will be made to the nearest authorised Hyundai dealer, or onward destination at the discretion of the recovery operator.

Yep I just got out my wallet found my *OWN* regular RAC card and dialed the number...  As soon as I said Hyundai everything changed, she wanted the REG number and was quite eager to tell me that the car was automatically covered.

I am sorry to disilusion you BUT what I needed was a HOME START and she said 'Sorry, that's not covered either on your personal nor warranty cover, howevere, you can give me your mastercard details and I will get someone on their way emmediatly.  after we have placed you in penury'   So I phone my dealership again and broke down in tears sobbing down the phone and they came round, left me a loaner and took my dream machine in and charged the battery, WARRANTY, said the techie guy  Yiippppeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

More than likely the RAC have a healthy contact with Hyundai, and the last thing they want is somebody to try and severe that via bad customer satisfaction

To my disappointment I found that Hyundai have dropped the RAC  foreign breakdown cover that was included on previous cars.

As a regular traveller to Europe I now have taken Britannia Rescue which gives me U.K. and foreign cover for my car as well as U.K. cover for my wife's car and for any car that either of us is in whether as driver or passenger for £109.  Membership of the CSMA is needed as well at £15 which includes a £10 voucher for the breakdown membership!

Edit:  The Hyundai RAC cover has a code number to quote which identifies it as Hyundai.
