Hi all,

Just purchased a 2011 i30 and am trying to set up a USB stick with music.  I find depending on the structure of the folders the number of songs that appear changes:

Total = 2016 songs
All in 1 folder = 2016 songs shown
In artist/album folders = 395 shown
In album folders = 682 shown

Based on this it appears there may be a maximum number of folders that the i30 can read?  Does anyone know what it is?  Can anyone suggest a good way to structure music folders for more than 2,000 songs?

Welcome  :goodjob: Have never had an issue with that folder limit but maybe you could sort your tracks into music styles or alphabetical (26 Folders)

Or artists (surely you wouldn't need more than a 100 artists on one stick)

Hi, not sure whether you are worried because the count is wrong or because some won't play.

I have 2x sub directories (Music and Playlists) because that is how that are on the PC - the playlists don't do anything ... under that I have about 400 album folders containing 5-20 tracks. I mostly have the radio set to All Random and it plays from anywhere on the stick. If I choose to I can stop the random on any album and it will play that or I can navigate to anywhere on the stick.

Hope that helps

maybe you could sort your tracks into music styles or alphabetical ...
:whsaid:
After excessive experiments and countless rewritings

I've created only 5 folders, one for each general music style. E.g. "Classic rock", "New rock", "Pop", "Oldies" and "Punk"
Each folder contains 100-200 songs (of the respective genre of course).
File names of the songs are begginning with artist's name e.g. "BoneyM-Rasputin.mp3" :whistler: This way you can listen continuously to a specific artist.

USB sticks are cheap enough, so consider of using more than one if you think that this is necessary. E.g. I use a second stick for some kind of music that I don't like to play mixed with some others so, I used one stick for Greek music only (*probably Dazzler throws his hat away right now, he really enjoys this kind of music  )

A few tips for the .mp3 filenames only:
Avoid begginning the artist's name with a "The" or else you may find yourself searching for "The Lemonheads" in "L" :D
Cut short the artist's name so you can read the song name along while you're searching on the radio screen.
Cheers

Hey guys,

Thanks very much for the input.  Have now settled on A-Z folders, might try and expand at a later date but seems to be ok for my needs at the mo.

Good Stuff  :goodjob: I personally don't bother with a folder starting with "G"
