I called into my usual tyre place today and was discussing tyres for the i30.
If I change cars, it's not an issue but if I decide to keep this one I'll need a new set soon.
He recommnded these as the best fit for Aussie conditions - $149 fitted & balanced, etc.

These are a different tyre to what Alan has I believe.
Any thoughts?

Continental do seem to be on a roll at the moment Dave (excuse the pun)

Not a bad price for the SLX size either  :goodjob:

My tyre guy spoke very highly of them - said he sells heaps of Continentals.
He is now in his very early twenties but was a teenager when he opened his business and he has done very well.
He's now having to move out of rented premises into bigger (bought) premises due to business growth.
I prefer to support him being a young guy trying to make a go of it and he usually does a good deal anyway.

Nice Link Rusty .. That site even has the SLX size in stock (looking at that last picture) :goodjob:

I wonder why that tyre has a rib in the middle not shown on the samples above it?

I think you'll find those tyres in the pics above are just used to show the noise breaker technology which Continental use on all their tyres.

The bottom photo is of the actual "Continental ContiComfortContact 5".......  :undecided:

This is the tread pattern on my Continental Premium Contact 2 tyres - and they are very quiet.

It seems that the naming of their tyres in the UK is quite different to down under.

I had contis on my past two cars and while I'm not sure they lasted as long as they could have they grip really well, I will buy a set after my factory ones wear out.

Just saw this. Unlike cars, the naming stays the same given that they are all made in Europe and the name is moulded into the tyre.
There are some instances where this policy has varied over the years to accomodate pattern names already in the market but the tyre will be made in the country where the name change takes place.
Pretty sure all the Contis we get here come from Europe.

You seem to pay strong prices in Australia for tyres!  Here in UK I would expect to get a top flight (Michelin /Continental etc) 205/55x16 tyre fitted & balanced for £80 - £90 each, maybe less if a promo on buying 4 etc.  I always try to use my local ATS.
I have had Continentals on a couple of cars and been very impressed.  Indeed they would be a tyre of choice for me.  Its all personal preferences of course - I thought they did really well on greasy wet roads even at only 2mm's of tread remaining on my old Clio hack, although both my son's thought they were wanting.

That does seem cheap in comparison (maybe it is an economies of scale thing + less bigger distances to freight and so forth ) :undecided

Wow, that is only a bit over A$100

I tried to get a comparative quote from these guys but they don't even list the i30 in their Hyundai models

http://www.f1wheelandtyre.com.au/product/Continental-Conti-Premium-Contact-2/default.aspx

They are available on Ebay for A$145 including delivery (nearly 50% more but still not bad..)
