I notice today that the two front windows open and close at different rates, the driver's (right) mirror being a bit faster. It is particularly noticeable when opening or closing the windows without the motor running.

Has anyone else noticed this or is it just that my Lubricious is right handed?

It's been discussed on here before Terry. Mine is the same. It seems to be the norm.
I reckon it's because the power has to travel further from the switch on the driver's side.

Probably is. And they do. But I reckon that's jus because one is operating at a different speed to the other.

As is the case with all cars, the wiring looms are made to a price. As long as the window functions, then it's considered ok. Doesn't mean it couldn't be better with a bit more copper in the wire. This is often a significant problem for car headlights too. Pay a lot of attention to all electrical connections where moisture is present. Water just loves to capilliate up the ends of exposed wiring, for considerable distances. You will end up with brittle, green copper oxide and very high resistance.

With the engine off they open in 2.3 seconds - and close in 3.3 seconds.

With the engine on they open in 1.9 seconds - and close in 2.4 seconds.

Here you are Dave - the current values for our town.  But please bear in mind, when you are giving your full consideration to these figures, that the car has been parked for a couple of hours in full sun and is baking hot and humid inside. Also it is parked in an area sheltered from the wind by the garage doors and the side wall of the house. 
Furthermore the outside surfaces of the glass have been treated with Rain-X, hence friction losses will be minimal. You should also note that I have just had a couple of glasses of the most superb full bodied and fruity Malbec wine with some pork pie for lunch. This may have affected my reaction times when using the stopwatch feature on my phone.

Down times assisted by gravity!  Engine on times assisted by  higher voltage!

Are you  comparing times  by operating both windows at the same time?   .........

Definitely not recommended as the switch supply wire is not designed to carry the load of both motors at the same time..

Some car drivers' handbooks  mention this specifically.

Try lubricating the window channels with some graphite powder If they are a bit tight they will slow the window operation down

Every time I read thread a like this I'm reminded of the ridiculous comments my wife makes as I trawl the highly intellectual discussions here: like... well I don't think I need to offer any, because you probably all know already!

The purpose of my original post was to see if other members had noticed the same thing happen with their windows as I thought there may be something wrong with the left-hand motor.

If no other members had posted that they too, had notice the same thing happen, I would have then deduced that it was only occurring in my i30. If this was the case, I would have be able to confidently go to my dealer and tell them I had a problem with the left-hand motor.

Fortunately, the responses from other members has allowed me to deduce that it is a condition common across several other i30s, so therefore I do not have a problem with my left-hand motor and I will not take my car to a dealer and report a problem that would have made me look like a goose.

And that's all I've got to say about that.
