Done some searching but cant see any feedback from anyone who has upgraded just their 2 main front speakers in an SLX ..

I have found the stereo sound quality in my new car only very slightly better than the SLX audio system and am considering replacing the basic 6" x 4" single cone units in the front of my hybrid with some decent 3 ways ..

(the SLX has 6" round speakers I think)

Anyone done this and noticed a worthwhile improvement???

I did the conversion of my first grey i30 but it was an SX if you're still interested. The result was worth it-better base and crisper sound

Hi Eyecon .. thanks I reckon the only difference with the SLX is the extra tweeters (so that is a good help) Did you use a name brand like sony or pioneer? Would I get a reasonable pair for say A$100?

So you only did the front pair...?

Sorry for the delay Dazz.
Yep I did the front pair only with the extra tweeters grafted in the door skin. They were a set of JL Audio VR600, 6in speakers with splitters.
Specs are are follows:
Continuous power handling: 60 watts
Recommended Amp power: 15-100 Watts per channel (RMS)

Cost was about $300 though. I chose those ones because of their ability to handle non-amped head units, but also capable of handling an amp if required. These were apparently the 'benchmark' speakers when tested against other manufacturers.

Thanks eyecon.. I'm still in two minds whether to bother.. A guy at one of the car accessory places (Auto one) tried to discourage it .. he reckons Toyota would have used reasonable speakers in a Camry.. and said I might need to pull a speaker out and take it in to get one to match

i doubt they would have used "good" speakers... its a production car, not a show car!

i bet its a standard 6'' speaker!

The window tint guy that took the door trims off said they were 4" X 6" rectagular speakers in the doors but I don't think there is such a thing.. reckon they are 9" x 6" ..

Because the Hybrid is so quiet I don't have to run the stereo as loud as I did in the SLX so reasonably happy with the standard setup...

If I do upgrade the two front speakers I'll do it soon or no point..

Hi guys i have replaced front and rear speakers in my SX and they are both the same 6" round jobbies, replaced them with 4x eclipse 3 way's at just a touch under $400 they were onsale at the time . better base sound at hi volume. i used part of the old speakers because the hole was too big for the new ones( factory speakers all one piece molded plastic with paper inserts) they are pop riveted in so i just drilled them out cut off the old plug and soldered on new connections. then screwed them in. the prob is now i like more base depending on the song so will more than likely have to add small woofer and amp.

Thanks for the feedback wai30.. Eclipse must be a good brand at $100 a pop on special.. sounds like only an incremental improvement so far...

Sounds like a bigger job than I Have anticipated (I would assume it would be a straight swap). You have to remove the door panel for that I presume?

How about the rear speakers? Is that straight forward?
