Yeah I had a gander too Oggie and there is some debate about whether it was 1932 or 1911, nobody seems too sure.  In both these years it would appear that it froze momentarily and there was definitely enough ice on the upper layers to walk on however the water was still flowing beneath the ice layer.

There is one instance in the 1800s where the flow of the falls did completely stop for a number of hours though.

Either Global Warming is a farce and it'll be freezing again soon, or it's not and it'll never freeze again. Taking bets...

I am with the farce idea myself, somebody needs to note that "climate change" as it is now called put paid to dinosaurs and they certainly were not driving around all day pumping out carbonated gasses.  Remember about 10 years ago we were told that the reason the ice caps were melting was due to the great hole in the ozone layer which was preventing the damaging rays of the sun from being filtered properly and causing the melting?  At the time we were instructed to go CFC friendly, but even though the hole would take hundreds if not thousands of years to repair.  The hole is virtually gone and oddly enough when said hole was bigger the planet was colder, now it's closing we are warming up (a little).  Seems obvious to me that this is the cyclical nature of our planet and since the hole has only been seen once that this has been a cause all along.  There is strong scientific evidence to suggest that mankind has contributed to the acceleration of the cycle but is not the CAUSE of it, that is just mother nature adjusting to keep the balance.............................................discuss!!

Hi Brian,

Interesting about the hole in the ozone layer closing up. The hole was apparently positioned over Tasmania (general area... ) so it's good if it's closing up..as skin cancer rates are fairly high here for a temperate climate.

Hi Shambles,

Looks like we're in the clear now...They used to mention it a fair bit that we were under part of the hole which was centred on Antarctica but looks o/k now...

I've only seen them once (I should get out more often)
