Obviously I will ask dealer to investigate this when convenient. (Though it's one of those where i can imagine not not happening on the day I try to demo this to the dealer).

In the meantime I'd like to compare notes with other i30 owners:

- On driving over recessed drain covers at say, 20-30 mph, or when front wheels drop over a sharp speed hump at 3mph, there's a slight clunk from the front on the same side as the wheel involved. By ear, it sounds a bit like classic anti roll bar/worn bush type issue. But on a new car?

Any reports of experiences of the same issue appreciated.

Mine used to have all kinds of clunks, but only noticeable at low speeds (5-15mph) on uneven roads.

Was diagnosed as a badly worn flexible coupling. Not saying yours is the same problem, but don't let the car's age dictate what could or could not go wrong; my problem started when less than 12 months old (the car, not me).

Funny you should say that, I had a similar noise this morning

I was going around a roundabout and it sounded like my front coil spring on the suspension had shifted inside its retainers/cups, or what ever they are called.  I've done another 20 miles since it happened and its been ok, so as you I will need to keep a check on it.

I have one from the rear, it took an independant garage (at cost to me) to confirm there was a fault even though it had been back twice to our dealers.

I have a similar clunk on the nearside suspension on an uneven road when there is no passenger but does not seem apparent with a passenger

I'd be requesting the dealer refunds the cost.
If not, get in touch with CS at HY HQ

Hi eye30,
I cant really blame the dealers, I have been back several times for niggly issues, and I fear they may think I am looking for faults. Although they tested the car themselves before, so I had to take them out myself. The car seems to be temperamental, as I have an intermittent engine rattle when started which was so obvious the garage I took the car to about the suspension said its not right and take it to Hyundai to listen too. Left the car with them overnight on Monday went yesterday ....... not a sausage!.

I know what you mean.  I get a slight judder from the clutch, posted elsewhere on site, and I've left it twice at the dealers.

They did experience it themselves and again with me but as it only happens when damp and only once, they are reluctant to do anything as HY HQ have not had any other reports.

But they have logged it and if it transpires that the clutch does need replacing before the 5 year warranty runs out, as I reported it within the 2 years warranty for the clutch they will sort it direct with HQ.

Tried a couple of hefty hill starts on the clutch? - there are reports from some i10 owners that it sorts out a clutch shudder for them.

Obviously ripping the plates apart is not the objective

Hi.
I also noticed a clonk from the suspension on my 3 month old I30 estate. It is now getting worse, and on taking it to my dealer for inspection, he noticed it from the rear as well!
It's going in for 'further investigation' later this week.
I'll let you know.
Jeff

Its not a loose plastic boot (they fall down) on the shock absorber, as discussed in another thread -  I can't actually remember if the front has them off the top of my head, someone will remeber.

Here is the thread

I replaced my drop-links for that but my car is a 2008 with 33,000 miles on it. £13.50 a pair off e-bay. Motor factors wanted £44.00!
Dealers probably more... but they should be a warranty item I would hope in your case...

There is a couple of TSBs for "FRONT STRUT NOISE REPAIR", concerning vehicles produced earlier :undecided:

TSB "HFE09-21-P261-HDFD" is for "thumping noise originating from front struts when passing rising grounds or speed bumps at low speeds 20~25 kph... due to friction between the bumper stopper and the inside of upper insulator cup". In this case, bumper stopper needs replacement with newly improved one whose length is reduced from 79mm to 55mm.

and

TSB "HFE10-21-P060-HDFD" is for "creaking noise emanating from the front strut when passing on a speed bump". Needs just urethane sealant application on upper of front strut dust cover.

I never had this problem on my i30 but I do have it on my MC Accent.
My mechanic said all is tight under there and no need to do anything, but it will be worn front struts.
It is annoying though - only happens when going over bumps and worse when suspension is cold.
