A woman had a narrow escape after she rode through a red traffic light into the path of a lorry in Ningbo City, east China.

The woman managed to jump out of the way to avoid the vehicle at an intersection in the Beilun District of the city.

However the electric bicycle she was riding was smashed when it was hit by the lorry.

Why didn't she let go of the bike  :undecided:

and why do we have to have ads, it's about as annoying as being force fed cold brussels sprouts when I was a kid  :fum: :fum: :fum: :fum: :fum:

She was nearly pulled under by holding on to the bike. Very lucky.

I wouldn't buy a lottery ticket if I was her, it looks like she has used up all of her luck.

Phil, I feel for you being forced fed cold brussel sprouts, I can't stand cooked ones!!  I would rather .... (insert bad things that you would do here than eat brussel sprouts).

Well we donn't get fed any ads either - the BBC is not a commercially-funded organisation so they cannot show them to us.

Am I the only one who thinks the lorry driver is the hero here? Quite clearly, he's reacted instantly and swerved to minimise the impact on that blind idiot  :undecided:

Yes, I agree the truck driver is the hero. Lucky that no other pedestrians were taken out too.
Unfortunately we have to sit through advertisements before the video starts playing.  :fum:

One thing I've learnt driving in Beijing is that you should expect cars, bike riders and pedestrians to ignore traffic signals.

So, although the bicyclist was definitely in the wrong, the truck driver should have approached the intersection with extreme caution because other road users can and will ignore signals and road rules.

I get a 15 second advert for Maserati which is easier to take than some - at least it sounds nice.
Most of the ads though are a pain the posterior.
I'm with Firefox too.

Well the BBC don't do ads, it's against their rules. I am guessing it's either your ISP or some toolbar weapon that's kicking in

@ Mad Dog

There are ads on all BBC feeds for me. I'm on Google chrome.

I wouldn't eat the Sprouts when they were warm, as a child, so they went cold & then I wasn't allowed to leave the table till they were eaten. Hated them then, hate them now & peas too, same reason. :fum:

You are correct (about the BBC) I don't mind sprouts as long as they are warm and not over cooked ...

Here is the explanation for the ads that I can't see -

Why we made the changes

We have an unusual requirement when it comes to developing the BBC website – it carries advertising internationally but not in the UK, and we have to build and design for both these situations simultaneously. The site carries advertising internationally so that UK licence fee payers don’t cover international costs. Some content on the site is available in the UK but not internationally - notably certain rights restricted video. Up to now we have had: A UK edition without ads, A UK edition with ads, an international edition with ads and an international edition without ads, all in addition to some content which is visible in the UK but not internationally. Managing all those combinations within our existing design framework had become impractical as well as expensive and, critically, had started to affect our ability to find the best ways of developing the site in the future.
Why we are using GeoIP

In order to ensure that people in the UK do not see advertising, we have to use GeoIP. Without it we don’t know where ads should be visible and where they shouldn’t. The same applies to video and other rights restricted content. Generally GeoIP to determine country is reliable, but there are some occasions where it doesn't work properly and these we have to address case by case, with our GeoIP provider.

All stories are still available wherever you are in the world but some of the key pages such as the News front page show a more internationally focussed range of headlines.

Thanks Mad Dog that explains why our overseas members are having adverts.

I presume the same thing may apply to overseas news items that we see ads at the start of some items..
