This morning when I went out in the car an orange light appeared which I have never seen before or even knew existed.

It was the warn me of frost.

It chimed for a few seconds then went to steady amber.

The temp was showing as 3C.

Came home and parked up.  Went out an hour later and no light and the temp had gone up to 5C.

Something new.
Have you driven the new one in ice or snow yet? & is the Traction the same as with the old i30 Diesel?
How are you enjoying the new car?

This way at least noone should forget to put frostproof windscreen washer liquid in his car. Would be a shame to have an exploded windscreen washer system, wouldn't it?

Not yet as we are still in autumn.  Another month or so until the frost and snow.

If I remember I'll do a posting on how the traction is wbetween the 2 cars.

How are you enjoying the new car?

Love it.

I do miss the power of the diesel but for the driving I do now it's not much of a loss to me.

The other week did a 100 mile round trip with 5 adults of varying sizes and weight and the car just hummed along the motorway on CC at just under 70 mph.

Never had that problem here  and have had as low as minus 8c over the years (cars are garaged now)

Mine shows a picture of a snowflake on a motorway in the info display along with the chime, wondered what the warning sound was the first time I heard it! I think it comes on at 4C.

No, we have a fly-warning symbol in its place. If there are lots of flies around it lets us know before we set off.  :D

Might be that your windscreen washer liquid in OZ always has some minor ( -10° or so) frost protection in it. It's sometimes the same here even with the "summer liquid".
But if it gets relly cold in winter (like -20 or -30... our scandinavian readers will now laugh about what I call 'really cold' ;)) you need a much higher share of frost protection chemistry in the water. So it'd make no sense to fill that one in during the whole year because it is quite a bit more expensive among other things.

Easy now

I know I'm in the southern part of Scandinavia, but - 20 ºC is also very cold here  :P

Our summer washer fluid is normally -12 and winter fluid is -21 but even the winter fluid will turn to ice right away if you spray it on a frozen or cold windscreen at low speed.

Checked the Handbook and it lights up at 4C.

Stays on until temp rises.

It will also light up whilst you are on the move if the temp is 4C or less to warm of possible ice on the road.

Can see no mention of it in spec so was surprised as you that it appeared.

I wasn't surprised that the picture in the dash showed, it was the chime which had me wondering for a sec until I noticed the picture flashing in time!

Mine came on as I drove home tonight, it was 5C when I left dancing but hit 4C as I climbed the hill I live on.

None of that stuff. Our washer liquid comes straight out of the tap.

Now that does happen over here

that will be good, i read what you post Lester & i think its very useful to us here in Australia. as we mostly don't have snow & ice driving experence. then a few years back, i found myself in the midle of a snow storm in USA & i was driving. i have noticed both my i30 diesels have been very sure footed in the wet with exerlent traction. but not sure why, might be the motor is on top of drive wheels?

That's certainly one reason Lakes, but the other is that the ESP system used by Hyundai is really very good, I hope it works as well on the much larger i40 but will report soon on that I am sure!!
