Needing 2 new tyres, 205/55/16/91H on my motor.. budget per side is £75 tops which rules out the top-end manufacturers. Car currently has OEM Hankook Optimo K415s on them, and while they've been ok they're awfy noisy at speed. I haven't rotated, and so the backs have plenty tread on them, but fronts are getting near the limit.

Looking on Tyresavers, I can do 2x Bridgestone ER300s for £140 fitted by Halfords Auto-centres but when I popped in locally to ask about them and get an opinion, the guy was trying to push some no-mark tyres by Sailun saying they were better than the Bridgestone tyres.

Looking on Tyresavers' website to find out more, it seems they are SH-402 Atrezzos which I haven't heard of and there's precious little online to back up the guy's claim they are better. They sound like cheap Chinese ditch-finders to me and should be avoided, but I wondered if anyone has (or have had) them fitted and can give an opinion? They're £15 a side cheaper than the Bridgestones, but I suppose there's a reason for that in terms of efficiency, and probably profit.

So, the question is, are the Atrezzos any good? I'm guessing not, so what about the Bridgestones? They are a good £10+ cheaper on Tyresavers than anywhere else I've found... Any other tyre recommended within the price range? Don't mind buying the tyre from MyTyres or somewhere similar and paying for fitting seperately if thats what it takes to get a decent tyre.

I don't want to be putting any cheap, crappy shoes on if I can avoid it, but don't want to sell a kidney either.

When I had to replace tyres on my first i30 I replaced with the same and got them via the dealers.

They actually gave a better price than the tyre only places.

Don't forget that it is only the size of the soul of your shoe that is in contact with the road, times 4, so buy according to your requirements and this is not always based on price.

Just as a side.  I've bought cheapo's and had fantastic wear and grip and I've also bought expensive and these have been poor in grip, wear and handling.

I recently got x3 new tyres fitted at a nearby Eurofit, £49 each & they have been very good, no scary moments, no punctures and all even looking in th wear rates to date. If anyone is interested I'll post the make & name / type up.

When I took delivery of my new i30 in April 2012 I swapped all four standard Hankooks for Continental Premium Contact 2 tyres in order to reduce road noise.

You will find a lot of information on this subject if you search this forum.  Here is one of several threads on the subject of tyre noise
https://www.i30ownersclub.com/forum/index.php?topic=14157.msg155227#msg155227

I paid £73 per wheel fitted less a refund for the unused Hankooks of £30 per tyre. Hence it cost me £170 in total to get a quieter ride.

Doctor..

I haven't used either of the tyres you are looking at but my gut feeling would be to go with the brand name. They would be steering you towards the cheapies as they would make more margin out of those ( a common ploy)

Maybe you would be better to just get some more Hankooks if you can get them for the same price as the Bridgestones because...

(a) who is to say that model of bridgestone will be quieter
(b) I am not a fan of mixing brands/ patterns on a car (different braking and wet weather performance front to back, etc) :sweating:
(c) even if they are quieter still got the Hankooks on the back so may not notice much noise reduction anyway

Sailun are just about the bottom of the barrell. We fit them occasionaly when someone wants "the cheapest tyre". Generally about when they're selling the car.
The OE Bridgestones I had on my Impreza were very noisy but I don't remember which ones they were. As dazz says, other models may be more quiet.
But the Conti is your best option. Try shopping around just for that model and I'm sure you'll find a price you can live with.
DON'T let them sell you up to the "newer" version. It's not as quiet.
There are plenty of cheaper ones around which will be reasonable.
What were yours ffoxy??

The Falkens, Avon/Cooper or  Uniroyals at £45 - £55 should do you O.K.

If they're the ones with the flowers on the sidewall, they're appearing on i30s and Elantras over here too.

Replacing the fronts at 27000 miles. Backs still have about 4mm tread left.
