I am just throwing this out there to see if I can get some different points of view and it may help others.

Putting it short I was offered some extras for the i30 after I signed the contract, as some of you may have also and I wanted to see what you thought.
I really want to hear pros and cons from someone other then a sales person trying to make extra money out of me.
Although money is an issue, put it aside for a moment and let me know what you actually think of the product.
I will list what they have offered and make a small comment on my first impressions.

The darkest legal window tint (35%)
I guess good for insulation in summer and looks good.
Paint protection
Not sure on this one, sounds good to not have to polish the car again. But is it so good that you never have to worry about anything staining your car?
Interior protection
Three children in the back really make a mess, but I am sure car seat covers would work just as well.
Electronic rust protection
This sounds like a total waste IMO.
Parking sensors
Yeah kind of cool, we have them on the work cars and they are good for bigger cars - but I have never had a car with them yet and the i30 is not huge.
Bluetooth
I support these all the way, but I am thinking there would be cheaper versions.
Sat Nav
These are cool, but I have one already - I only seem to use it at work though - rarely use it in my personal cars.
DVD Player in the back (3 x headsets)
Now as much as this would be fun for the children if we went on long drives - I am sure I would only get this for the wow factor.
Alarm
Yeah again an alarm is good, but I already pay insurance and a damn heap of it. How many alarms go off and no one cares.

Just thought it would be an interesting topic to share.

Hi Saint

Here's my 2 cents worth...

The darkest legal window tint (35%)
Definitely worth having.. but get this done direct (won't pay dealer margin of about $200 on top of actual cost)

Paint protection
Would be worth it on red only if not such a rip off price (white looks after itself and metallics have a clear coat over the top anyway)

Interior protection
Three children in the back really make a mess, but I am sure car seat covers would work just as well."ditto"

Electronic rust protection
This sounds like a total waste IMO.It is (Modern cars don't have rust issue in Australia anyway...)

Parking sensors
Think they would be good even in the i30 with its poor rear vision but buy direct to save the "dealer margin...)

Bluetooth
Most manufacturers charge too much for this as an option - great feature but again aftermarket options are cheap now (or via your GPS)

Sat Nav
Got one of these (if ever replace will get the new models with reversing camera also included - great idea...)

DVD Player in the back (3 x headsets)
If I was carting 3 kids around I would get that but shop around for aftermarket....

Alarm
SLX and SR have alarm already (not sure about SX?)

Regards,

Dazz

They phoned back today to ask if I wanted the extras and I said no.

Thank-you for your response.

No probs Saint...

Guess we didn't give anyone else much time to come up with a comment... probably still get more input for future reference.

Saints,

For it is always the best to get prices outside of a dealership, after working in dealerships for a while, i can see that they do rip you off anyway that they can. If not by 100% or more on top of the cost price, which is bloody heaps.  I would rather go out and source these out by yourself due to being able to save yourself heaps off the price of the extras. Plus with end of stocktake sales on at the moment, some things will be even cheaper!

Hello just reading this now, a little behind the eight ball.

We had the electronic rust fitted into our Landcruiser for obvious reasons beach driving, and although we have still not driven it on the beach is the 3 years its been fitted we have found that for whatever reason our paintwork is extremely shiny without fancy polishing etc.  We have asked around about this and have found that other people who have had it fitted have also got this benefit.  We constantly get asked what type of polish we use on the vehicle, anyway we have since picked up our hyundai and got this option fitted.

Don't ever get the paint protection.  Its another lacquor that is sprayed over your paint, if its not done correctly dust and other particles can get embeded into it, my uncles car looks terrible and its chipping everywhere.

We paid $695 for the darkest legal tint and the electronic rust from our dealer.

my two cents worth!!!

Hi VBS..

$695 for the tint AND Electronic Rust sounds like a good deal if you were going to keep the car for 5 years + and live near the sea (I.M.O.) Especially if you have had a positive previous experience.

Assume you get some sort of warranty with it? Tint costs around $300 on an i30 from an independent fitter so means RUST cost you nearly $400 only worthwhile if you were in a harsh environment I would have thought.

Local Hyundai dealer is quoting $1495 for an (they say $1995 list price) Endrust package consisting of paint protection, tint (darkest legal), vinyl protection (I would guess not applicable since the i30 interior would be plastic not vinyl) and fabric protection (basically same as  Scotchguard).  I don't know what kind of rust protection (I think they just spray under the car and into all of the doors).  The price includes a "lifetime guarantee" - if you take the car in every 12 months and pay them $50 or so, they will check it and do any remediation required.  This includes (so they say) redoing the paint protection each 3 years or so.  Since I live on the coast the rust protection certainly has some appeal.

Does this sound like a reasonable deal - anyone have any experience of EndRust?

Dave

Dave,

That seems like a very resonable price if the tint is also included.

Hi Davet...

How long is it since you've seen a car made in the last 10 years with noticeable rust? How long are you going to keep your car (more than 5 years?)

The spray on type rust protection is really only topping up what the manufacturer does anyway. With that type of rust proofing if it's not done properly I believe they can block the drain holes in the bottom of the doors and other places and make rust more likely. The fabric protection is just a gimmick (I.M.O.)

I would spend $300 on aftermarket window tint and $200 on a good set of seat covers and put the rest away for a rainy day.. :P

I would have to agree - I have a 94 Mazda 323 with no rust.

I am planning to have the car 5 years - which would be the longest I have ever had a car. Mind you this is our first new car.
