Gday all

I have lost my spare key and wanted to get another. Hyundai are charging $500 for a replacement, has anyone got any cheaper suggestions?

cheers

Do you have a Mister Minit near you? They do keys and the remotes. I broke mine for my AU and they charged me $110 as opposed to Ford who wanted well over $250 for the same thing. Had to program it in myself but it came with instructions. Not sure what models they carry though, might be worth asking.

Welcome to the forum.

Try this place - it's a while since I've used them but found them pretty good and a lot cheaper than car dealerships for that sort of stuff.

Only issue I see is the programming the security chip.  When a dealer replaces a key or even a faulty security chip, all keys, even the non-remote, needs to be reprogrammed with the new key.

I had a security chip replaced, and the non-remote was not with the car.  It would not work after that until I had it and the other two keys reprogrammed at the next service.

The real question here is, "Can a non Hyundai key replacement have a security chip that is copied from one of the existing keys?"

Anyone had an i30 or current Hyundai key replaced by a third party supplier?

On a different tack altogether, I've successfully designed, built and installed remote keys for more than one model by tapping into the wiring leading to the security module. This allowed me to price a generic solution for a lot of friends - with 200m range and uniquely keyed rolling code - at $50.

Worth considering, especially for older cars that may be more difficult to support.

We can discuss your specific need and then design the effort before pricing, which typically consists of converting 12V to 5V to power the receiver, and then convert its 5V output back up to 12V to drive the central locking... but every car is a little different.  :sweating:

I used to use 5V regulators and heatsinks but now I can source more efficient USB converters for the same cost.

As for bio, meh, we only live once so go hard, but thanks.  :goodjob:
