Temperatures, which fell to 12F in Aboyne, north-east Scotland, and 14F (-10C) in Farnborough, Hants, could dip to possibly 10F (-12C) tonight, which is colder than in Iceland, although experts said by tomorrow the worst would be over and it will gradually begin to get warmer.

Whats that suppose to mean, This morning it was +8°C when driving to work 
Me loves the Gulf Stream 

The Gulf Stream keeps Iceland, Coastline of Norway, Ireland, Scotland and parts of England much warmer than It should be, especially Iceland on it's high north location.

Aboyne is 30 miles West of Aberdeen and is constantly colder than the rest of the NE of Scotland, mainly because it is situated in a valley on a fairly big river.

Lowest temps in Aberdeen this week have been -5C rising to 3C during the day.

The other side of that though is that in Summer the Gulf Stream allows us to reach temperatures generally in the mid to high 20's which creates a fairly wet West Coast of Scotland, but this side is generally dry and warm.  On a really nice clear day it is possible to see Norway from the North East tip of Scotland.  We also get Dolphins breeding in that area due to the warmer currents.  Don't come until August and you won't need your thermals!!

Greenland cannot bee seen from Iceland, thats about 286 Km

It is possible to make out the Norway coast from Peterhead area, which is a distance of about 400Ks however the West coast of Norway sits about 3000 metres ASL which obviously helps.

I am surprised that you cannot see Greenland from Iceland, don't your skies clear enough??

We get clear skies there, the closest highest peak in Greenland is about 3700m ASL and 500Km away, When Icelanders think they saw Greenland, they only saw cloud banks near Greenland, it's possible to calculate this, where the horizon is depending on your height.

yeah, saw it in the news, this is a total algebra to me, 99% of household here is heated up with hot water from boreholes,

You have boreholes; we also use hot water, but we have to pay to burn gas to heat the water up before spreading it around the house in radiators

aahh, that explains it 

I first thought about gas stoves or something and the danger of open flames in your home  silly me.
