Is anyone else having problems with their key fob? Mine gradually seems to be coming apart at the join on the top end of the fob. Every few days I notice the gap is pretty wide and need to push it back together again, but thinking it is only a matter of time before it completely breaks into 2.

Mine did the same thing. Eventually the fob came completely apart. Local dealership replaced it under warranty - needed the car for half a day to do the re-coding.

Hi Shame,

Thanks for the feedback - I was coming close to trying to glue it myself, but seeing that it's a fault I'll make sure to go through the service centre.

Peter

I thought of gluing mine back together, but then I thought if it stuffs up completely I may end up having to pay for a replacement.

Ehhh, my second fob was coded in 15 minutes, what did they need the car for half a day for?

They had Fergie for 24 hours after crippling her electronics, and still didn't get the 2nd fob reprogrammed until 3 days later :(

On the subject of keys, did you all get the bar code label with the key number on it that's mentioned in the handbook? Cos I didn't.

Yep, it's on a plastic thingy attached to the master key.

Neither did I. When I queried this with the dealer (as the handbook says to "keep it safe") they said it was no longer necessary as the Hy system had all the details.

Buggered if i know?  :D

Might have had a busy schedule? When I told them about it, they told me to bring the car in on the following day and they'd get it back to me ASAP - which was just after lunch. Guess they just squeezed it in amongst their already scheduled services?

How much costs that 2nd key.. I ordered one..

A number of owners just got 1 flipper key when they bought their car.

After approaching their dealer a number of us go an extra flipper for free.

I was quoted £150UKP

Before you pay ask for a FREE key.

i asked for a 2nd flipper key and was quoted £350, they laughed when i asked for it free.

the key that came with it did have to be replaced (the flipper wouldn't lock-in, apparently i had too many keys on the key ring and it broke the spring inside )
they replaced it under warranty and when i asked if i could keep the faulty on as a spare, yes, they laughed again. :'(

My free "spare" fob was authorised by the top honcho. In a way I kind of used a thuggish approach, but that can be seen in the keyfob thread we all know and love. The spare that came with mine was proven useless and "not suitable for purpose".

Phone Hy UK customer service (number is on the web page under contacts) and explain that the car only came with one fob and that the emergency key is of no use to anybody since it sets the alarm off and that you are aware other owners have been able to get a second fit for purpose fob and that indeed new i30s are being supplied with a second fob indicating that Hyundai have recognised the problem and recitfied it.

They will try and tell you that the dealer can change the alarm settings so that the emergency key can be used, but stick to your guns (use the I am an original owner which gets the vehicle seen and I am therefore a mobile free advert for your product if required), the operator will tell you that they need to speak to the manager and put you on hold while they go and make a coffee, then come back and say that they have arranged for the parts to be sent to your dealer who will contact you for the key to be cut and coded.

Good luck
Brian

i don't seem to be having key fob problems yet, might be that some carry more on there key ring i don't have much on mine, also even though i bought the SX i got two key fobs new never had to ask they just gave me the second key fob, both work fine.
but i've always wondered why they do not have screws to hold key fob together, like ford do, so you can unscrew and put a new battery in when the one there goes flat. seems hyundai might build good cars but they don't build them with long term in mind they probably hope you will buy a new one b4 the bttery goes flat?
cheers

Also, tell them it may invalidate your insurance cover if you have to make a claim under theft as the spare key doesn't fully set the immobiliser/alarm and you will be seeking compensation from Hy UK
