Hi,

I'm new to the forum. I am trying to re-register my i30 (Diesel) after moving interstate and I need to show the inspector the actual engine number stamped on the engine. I can't see it anywhere, obviously I have it on the rego papers and compliance badge but can't locate it on the actual engine. Any ideas?

Hi thescroogewins

Welcome to the forum.

My first thought was; shouldn't it be the inspectors job to know where to find that number...

It is shown in your Owners Manual where the engine number is placed.

Asterisk is right. It's not your responsibility to show the inspector where the engine number is.
If he doesn't know or can't find it, he's incompetent.

Correct Surferdude, but when registering cars, it's not generally advisable to draw attention to the inspector's incompetency and then expect a good result, even if he is a  :argh: :D

True. But I've never been known for my tact in the face of beaurocratic incompetence (read "stupiudity") .  :whistler:
It's an i30 SLX. Can't be too much wrong with it.

I had the same problem when I moved to Tassie, the local garage couldn't find the engine number.  Then they looked in the owners manual and it tells you where to find it (it is a PITA to read, BTW).  Have a look in the manual, look up "Engine number" in the index.

I would have expected that people "in the trade" would have reference to info about vehicle id marks so they can check the authenticity of a vehicle presented to them.

ps your local dealer should be able to tell you where it is located.
