Hey all, well thinking about getting a Kayak but know nothing, just will be moving & only have to cross the road to use one, though could be fun to try & also take up fishing again as there are plenty of good size fish to catch ( have not fished in about 25 years ) & i like eating fish. so any advice welcome.

Hi John. I have one.

There are basically 2 types. Sit in and sit on.

The sit in kayaks (of which I have one) are better for paddling , being generally longer (15' - 16') and glide better. So if you want to explore, these are better for it.

If you want to go fishing, there are all sorts of sit on type kayaks which come equipped with almost everything you need, including rod holders, cool boxes etc. Trot into Anaconda or BCF and look at the options. These are a bit more stable but marginally more sluggish in the water. Great fishing platforms according to some of my mates.

Good fun.

Enjoy.

I had a Quickcat. Great things.
The Hobie stuff is probably exactly what you're looking for. There's a few of them head out at dawn to fish the reefs just offshore from where i surf.

thanks Treve i'll take a look at the Hobies, seems a good system as peddling with feet leaves hands free to steer & fish they also have a spare paddle if needed. thanks again.
