Mozilla developers are considering dropping support for the <blink> tag from future versions of the Firefox browser, in a move that would see the web rid of the scourge of blinking text once and for all.

We've had the blink control on our forum for around 3 years - invisible to many of our members who use IE or Chrome to browse.

It looks now like the last bastion of the flashing web - Firefox - is to follow suit and rid the world of flashing text

I quite like it, I have to say.

I hand-code all my web pages and to this day I remember the <blink> tag with fondness, even if it was generally overused ... but then again, so were gaudy colours, and the flash animations of today are probably more of a nuisance.

We'll remove the blink control when Ff ceases supporting it I guess.
