NISSAN has had its first major Australian motorsport victory in 21 years - as a familiar name surges leaps back into the headlines.

James Moffat, son of former touring car legend Allan, leapfrogged teammate Michael Caruso at the restart of the two-part Race 25 of the V8 Supercar season at Winton and held him off for his first top-level victory.

Thanks Rusty, saw most of the race. Bit of a procession though...they need to make the tracks wider, I reckon, so there is more passing  :D

Of course, the fact that Winton is the designated test track for Nissan would have helped them immensely. For those who don't know, the V8 Supercar teams can nominate one track, which is the one they must do all their testing at. Pretty sure the FPR and BJR also test there. In fact BJR is based in the area.
However, a great win in their first season and it's been even longer since a Moffat won a Touring Car race.
I think I heard them say Allan Moffat last won at Wanneroo 29 years ago and his son James was born 2 months later.  :goodjob2:

 Rick & Dazz, i call that the trots. that's a good run Rick is it just one drop?

Yes saw part of the race, was an incident at start but good to see something new win, in old days nissan had a big advantage due to rules of the day.
race was a bit boring to watch though.
they need more overtaking, the old Winton track surface looked a bit agricultural  :disapp:

If you come this far Rick will be a long run!

well yesterday was not Nissans day.

off the line Toddler ( tod kelly ) somehow went straight into the wall as side of track , then near finnish his older brother Rick not to be out done did something similar, turns out out of four nissans entered only one finished that was Ol Al's Boy finished 9th
i watched the race or most of it & track looked a bit better than i originally thought , by end of day two track looked to have good rubber layer down so that helps too, i saw cracks in track surface when i saw part of race saturday.
was not real exciting as they don't overtake that much these days.

It's the Winton track, John. More of  Mickey Mouse circuit. To short, too narrow and too many corners for proper racing with today's cars.
It's great fun to drive in a road car, though.

well did not know that Dazz, a few people have said they don't like Rick they use a P  but i guess when your in a sport like that under extram pressure it's hard to be nice, specially if you want to win.

Trev i've never been to the Winton track but saw the turn off many times on the hwy south. but a m8 used to be sponsored by Buell & a HarleyDavidson dealer, & back in early 2000 he raced a Buell in formula extreme  used to ride the bike down to winton from Sydney to compeat in three day events, he liked it.

I remember seeing a pretty much unknown Kevin Magee riding the Bob Brown Ducati around the original tight track...awesome!  :goodjob:
