Hi all,

I am looking for a momentary switch to replace the blanking plate that sits to the left of the ESP and dash dimmer rheostat switches in the FD SX hatch. I've had no luck finding one.

Also, could someone please kindly tell me the width of this blanking plate? If I can't find a complete replacement, I will drill a switch into the blank plate. I ask because I don't have access to the car for several weeks, and need to buy the switch between now and then (otherwise I'd measure it
myself!)

Thanks!!  :goodjob:

This is the part I'm talking about:

psi-guy this is a bit of a weird one,as the fascia of the switch is not an exact rectangle, but it measures 42mm x 27mm but it has a very small indentation on the left hand side, but the back of the switch which plugs into the hole is a rectangle and it measures 40mm x 25mm and with out the 6mm of fascia that back part of the switch is 35mm deep,I have never been able to find a switch to fit exactly,in one of ours I have simply put  slimline contour switch drilled into the plate, our other car I have drilled the flush fitting stylised switches into the lower panel of the dash, which I personally think is  better job and looks neater

I'm certain that there is a switch for that plate in an O/S model, probably a premium, however, it would be marked with some identifying letters.

I've seen a photo here of that group of switches, at least 18 months ago.

Thank you both, and especially I am A Nice Member for the measurements. Any chance of a photo of these switches you've done?

Phil No1, I vaguely remember seeing perhaps headlight dippers or something as the third switch, but it was divided horizontally into two switches... it may be on a different model, my memory is hazy.

Anyway, going off those great measurements, I bit the bullet and bought a switch - if I can find a direct replacement for the blank plate, I may do so later. As you mentioned, Phil - it would have text. Any ideas as to how one would write their own letters on?

This is the switch I bought:

This is what I ended up doing - simply drilled out the blanking plate. I think it looks nice and not out of place. I had to put a 102k resistor in the LED circuit to dim the light down enough - it was lighting up the whole cabin at night! It's a blue light, and matches the hyundai blue well. Unfortunately, it's not dimmable at the moment, but the disparity in brightness is only noticeable when you've got the cluster lights dimmed as low as possible.

Being an old bloke, he needs it...  :D

Make up your mind, Rusty. Does Dave need enlightening or does he need "it"?

hahaha, yes, it does light up. It also turns on a GPS unit I am moulding into the top of the dash where the cubbyhole sits (switch   GPS tested and working). I've wired the switch's LED to the headlight circuit so it only illuminates when the dash lights are on (I spliced into a wire behind the ESP switch), and I've sourced the GPS's power from the ACC at the back of the stereo. This way, the GPS will turn off when you remove the key (i.e. it loses power).

Pics of finished product to come soon.

EDIT: Here's a vid of the electrical setup, note that LED did not yet have resistors in circuit to dim it:

Ah, now you have my attention. My GPS is already located in the cubby but the tiny slide switch at its top needs bypassing to make it ideal - you have me thinking, which is often dangerous. :whistler:
