Hey Guys :P

Name is Josh, just moved to recently ad with the costs of running my car (subaru wrx), such as fuel and servicing, I thought it was time to get a new car.

Wasn't really knowing what I looked for, Mazda 3, Toyota, etc, then the Hyundai's caught my attention, I originally thought of an i20 but decided it was a bit small considering I move around a lot.

Found the i30 and thought great, found a 2012/13 Hyundai Elite (build date is 2013 but i think its a MY12) in white, with 20,000km on the clocks for $17999 from a dealer. Took it for a drive and was very happy, sure it doesn't have 200kw at all four, but the running costs are almost 50% less!

Picking it up tomorrow most likely!

Standard Elite model with satnav, rear camera, electronic steering, push start and proximity, dual climate, automatic defog wipers and headlights, etc i'm sure you guys all know the bells and whistles!

I'll miss my rexy, but its just not a practical car. to give you an idea of running costs:

Last year I travelled 21,000km, using premium 98 from BP at an average of $1.70 a litre and a poor 11L per 100km it cost me $4000 in fuel alone. Servicing was also expensive, last year I have receipts for servicing alone of $2700 (every 5000km/3 months was a $280 service, plus I needed new pads and a cv boot that year and a new clutch. Then insurance, $1200 a year, among other things its not a cheap car.

Now ill be looking at just over half the fuel bill, capped services for the next two and much cheaper insurance :) I had a modded subaru, I won't be doing any performance mods to this car - just not worth the hassle and money in the end, I did like the blue interior led light option so might look at doing that, and some of the flashy chrome add ons later.

Dealer offered me paint and interior protection, $1800 - not sure if that was a total jip in which the dealer gets a 30% commission but photos seemed to suggest it was worth it, and its covered by lifetime warranty so if i do actually get a stain they will remove it free of charge and reapply the product - (supposedly  :undecided:)

Thanks!!

joshtammi Welcome as for the paint interior protection you can get the same lifetime warranty on paint and interior protection from Tint-A-Car for just over $600,what the dealer is offering is subbed out to independents and would be lucky to cost the dealer $400-$450, never be suckered into dealership deals,as you are simply being shafted. even on capped servicing they are making good money

Yeah I'm not surprised, although i've already signed the contract so I can't change it cause they applied the stuff today - live and learn I suppose!

Welcome!

Not the first WRX owner to trade up from memory :whistler: I know I talk about Hyundai Service costs, but from what I read Subaru have made it an art form.....

Welcome Josh!
I paid for that interior protection stuff as well, but they knocked the price down to $1500 for me. Wish I had know I could have had it done cheaper elsewhere!

The dealer protection packages are scary.
Just went through it with my wife's Corolla when we bought it.
As I said to my wife later (after saying "No" as tactfully as I could), think about the odd spill we've had in each of our cars over the last 10 years and show me one which I wasn't able to clean out with a bit of detergent and/or fabric cleaner. 10 minutes work, max.
As for the paint.
Mongrel parking lot users will do more damage than anything else over the years, provided you clean it occasionally and polish maybe once or twice a year.

It is quite an upgrade, to think I was paying (with all costs included) the same if not more for the subaru with around 1/10 of the features!!

I also got an extended 3 year nationwide warranty on the already 4 years so 7 years plus 6 years of roadside assist. Spent all arvo playing inside, its really nice!

whilst I agree the protection package is expensive I'm impressed by the detail that was done especially inside which looks smells and feels like new so even if you don't do it through a dealer it might be worthwhile getting it done for $1000 cheaper elsewhere.
