Motorists could pay almost £200 a year more for petrol when a new green fuel is introduced in line with EU rules, experts have warned.

Their tests show the new blend of unleaded petrol can make cars up to 11.3 per cent less efficient, increase CO2 exhaust emissions and even ruin the engines of some older vehicles.

I see that 'What Car?' used a 1.4 Hyundai i30 as one of the cars in their tests. If their figures are correct I'm not yet convinced that there will be any good done for the environment.

E10 fuel - What Car? E10 fuel tests - What Car?

I assume the EU has taken into account that the crops used to make the ethanol tend to be doused with fertiliser made from oil. And that the land used could be used to feed humans. In the UK we can only produce 60% of our own food these days due to overpopulation. The rest has to be imported, sometimes transported thousands of miles by air !

We've had E10 over here for years. I haven't found much if any difference in fuel economy with modern cars made to tolerate it. I wouldn't use it in older cars though!

Like Dazz, i could not tell the difference between e10 & 98 when i was driving a 2.7L Hi Ace auto on & off all new (replaced @ 80,000k ) & i drove them about 40,000k per year myself. they got 14L/100k no matter how careful or what fuel used.
i used 98 when got new one, but had to change to e10 as company policy with fuel card. so i got to compare & surprised no difference & the ran & felt about the same. but if you have a car with hi compression it would be a different story. or an old car  or old motor bike the E10 not good.
