Hello all, it's a long time since I have been on here, but I feel an update is required.   We have a late 2010/2011 minor upgrade  i30 SLX Diesel, serviced every 15k , at 48800km I noticed it was taking a while to engage reverse, checked the oil and it was very dark and burnt, transmission was "reconditioned"under warranty. Now at 49600 my wife went to go to work this morning and there is no drive in any gear. Car was parked on Friday and all was well, oil is nice and clean, back to dealership to find out the problem... We were assured that the "Reconditioned Transmission" was a fix, not just a bandaid to get it through the warranty period. I'm not sure about that now. Car has been trucked to the dealers and they are going to inform me of what they find. keep ya posted, Gaz

Worrying that this is just a plain old torque converter auto  not one of these new DSG ones. I'm glad to have a manual but know I'm a dying breed and selling will be difficult.

I feel for you because it's difficult to trust that it won't happen again. The big question is whether to keep the car past warranty?

What Con said!  :Pout:

The Manual shouldn't be hard to sell (they have an awesome reputation with those in the know!)  :victory:

It's not a DSG transmission, so that's good. I wouldn't fret too much, apart form the inconvenience caused. When the selector is in par or neutral, the transmission does nothing, yet a small movement of the selector can put the transmission into reverse or drive, I feel it could be a selector adjustment, or a valve, both of which the dealer will have to sort out.

Sorry you've had further problems, keep us posted.

Well we have the car back, the drive pump failed in the rebuilt tranny so Hyundai have supplied and fitted a brand new transmission, car is so much smoother than it has been for 40000 km, so I think May have been a dud tranny from the start

Just an update, looked under the bonnet and it's not a "brand new" transmission , but a rebuilt one, still has the road grime on it from wherever it came from, not happy being barefaced lied to I can tell you, still running ok, but why lie??

I think you'll find most car warranties stipulate the use of second hand or reconditioned (remanufactured) parts in their warranty conditions.  :undecided:

Correct about the remanufactured parts, but never second hand parts for warranty. Remember, whenever they put in a new part, they need to give warranty for that part as well.

But only for the remaining warranty period for that particular item.

Probably badly worded on my part and correct me if I'm wrong but aren't reconditioned (remanufactured) parts second hand?  :undecided:

Just had a call from Shannon at Hyundai Australia, she just told me the only old part in the transmission is the case, everything inside is new... I'd like to believe that but after being around cars for 50 years I have my doubts, I hope I'm wrong.....

Maybe  :D
In my wordbook a second hand part is a part swapped directly from a used car to another without any improvement at all.
From my time at a VW dealer, a remanufactured part was a used part, yes, but always send back to factory/supplier for a total overhaul, and would be as good as new, hence there was always new part warranty on that part as well.

If we replaced a part with a new or remanufatured part e.g 2 days before the cars new car warranty ran out, there would still be 2 years warranty for the replaced part.

I need to repeat my self; I'm surprised about the lack of trust in the dealers.. they're not all thieves and rubbers.  :disapp:

They have fitted a remanufactured part, see my previous post, and will provide you warranty for that part, so why would they fit something used they don't know the condition of...
