Hi Guys and Gals,

With just over 69,000km on the clock, the original Hankooks are due for replacement. (I could put a few more kms on them, but why push it?)

As I do 90% highway, I was searching for one of the low rolling resistant versions. Pirelli, Yokohama, Hankook, Continental,Bridgestone.

All seemed fairly close when looking through the blurbs.

Bridgestone are running the 'Buy 3 get 4' promo. Sounds good to me.

Rang the local Bridgestone dealer that quoted me $134ea ($402 total).  Rang Bob Jane and they quoted  $149ea.  Bob Jane was very surprised and said they would match the opposition if I provided them with a written quote as proof. (Hmmmm... why would I bother doing that, and not just go with the guys who gave me the best price in the first place?)

Tyres size is 205 55 16.

Will get the tyres fitted tomorrow. Will give a report back on how they go (comfort, economy etc) when I get a few kms on them.

Cheers, :)

Hi Al,  Not 100% sure.  I did ask if the price included fitting, balancing etc. He said yes and asked if I was interested in a wheel alignment aswell.

Maybe the sting in the tail... $50 fee for the disposal of each tyre!!

Will ask tomorrow.  :)

Disposal should be no more than $3 each for passenger tyres.
Just want to clarify.
$134 each at Bridgestone. So $134 x 3 gets you 4 tyres.
$149 each at BJ? I guess that is times 4.
So, the 4/4/3 deal is pretty good.
And Jane is dearer on each tyre. Plus you pay for all 4.
Is that all correct?

If any tyre company asked me for a tyre disposal fee on top,I would be telling them to jam their tyres where it doesn't shine,I have always suspected at the prices they already charge, the diposal fee is built in

Ask for them back as they are yours.

Then next time passing tip dump them.

Or

Turn inside out for planters

Dumping of tyres in Oz is strictly controlled. Only accredited companies are allowed to collect them from tyre shops who have to pay for each one taken away.
I can't speak for the guys Rick deals with but it has for years been industry practice in Austraila to show a separate line on the invoice with the disposal fee listed as much to make the general public aware of the need to dispose of tyres responsibly as anything else.
And I can tell you, tyres have by far the lowest profit margin of any automotive component.
A bit of research as to how much an average tyre costs today, versus 10 or 20 years ago will make that clear.

Tyres are not permitted to be used for gardening purposes in our hills region, due to bush fire hazard. They emit toxic smoke and present a danger to fire fighters, the council will fine you if not removed and there is a cost to have them collected. They should be dumped at sea, to provide marine habitats so I can go fishing again. :)

PS They are a haven for Redbacks, too. :fum:

Hi Guys,   Bj were offering the 4 for price of 3 deal aswell, just that the price per tyre was $149 compared to $134 from Bridgestone select.

Total price for me was $402 (all inclusive).

So good timing for me.

I'm going to run the tyres at 38psi and see how we go.

cheers. :)

Ecopia is not a performance tire. Seems a fair deal. My cw has been using Ecopia EP100a for 3 years. Mine tire is 195/65/15 @ US$95/ea. Recommend to pump tire at 37~38 psi. This helps the economy and prevents possible wearing on the shoulder.  :happydance:
Previously there's a new series called "Nextry" which is less expensive than Ecopia.

@Alasama,

What do you think of these tyres, are you happy with them and how is the noise level, and wear

Due to some reason, I changed only two tires (twice) and new tires always at front. No rotations from front to rear. (but often need to pay attention to tire pressure to ensure perfect wearing)

In this case, the two tires ran 39k km. I think if I used 4 new tires and rotating regularly, perhaps they could run 60k km or more.

As to tire noise, I think it's okay to me, as long as do not let them deformed.

Here is a picture showing different characteristics.  :D
Top for higher-end product.
Bottom for ordinary product. (our i30 here equipped B series as standard :'()
Left for comfort.
Right for sporty.
