Every new car sold in Britain will have to have a ‘black box’ device fitted to track drivers’ movements from next year, under plans being imposed by the European Union.

Despite serious concerns about privacy and cost, UK ministers admit they are powerless to stop the Big Brother technology being forced on motorists and car makers.

The Government believes the gadget, designed to help emergency services find crashed vehicles, will add at least £100 to the cost of vehicles without providing significant safety improvements.

EU to bug every car in UK with tracker chips - and Ministers admit they are powerless to stop the Big Brother technology

Wonder will this be introduced to all countries in the world....

I have no issues with Black box Technologies for ALL vehicle categories,as stated could help emergency services, help in accident investigations as to cause and fault, but sadly I can also see the down side, because I just know Authorities would use it lo for their own benefit, which is a sad fact of life.
Especially when used correctly could do so much good.

Not really that sure how I really feel about it

How many crashed cars can't UK emergency services find?

I never heard such nonsense, bloody EU need to do one and soon!

Now I know cars can get lost in bigger more remote countries, like Australia with it's outback etc but to impose this on an unsuspecting country is a damn liberty!

No Not related,Never been to Tassie(sorry uncalled for just pulling ya leg) all for the theory of the technology,it could actually save a lot of lives, just not really sure how it would be used, especially by certain authorities.

Aussie won't be far behind, I'm sure.....  :fum:

They'll end up being used to see how fast we are travelling between different points and we'll receive a nice little pressie in the mail if they deem we were speeding...You mark my words young fella!  :whistler:

That's my point Rusty, for the right reasons the technology would be beneficial, but like you I feel it would just be another tool for authorities to stick it too the motorist to their benefit councils.police, parking companies, yes they would all feel it was within theirs rights to use it for their own benefit

USA police have been doing this for years, not tracking location, but air bag g forces to determine speed b4 accidents etc. Prosecuting when necessary, too.  It's all being recorded as we drive, now. The service guys even know how hard we've been driving our engines, too. :fum:

And they can (sort of) track us by a mobile phone location, anyway!

If we actually have it with us!  :undecided:

I'm assuming that, if it's EU driven, the same applies to all EU member countries.
