Teamsters, the front and rear skirts are looking absolutely immaculate in a rich and even Hyper Silver Metallic and the glistening clear coats I am adding every second day.

The front skirt has what appear to be two strips of black vinyl stuck on (see http://people.aapt.net.au/ferngonz/home/SK511a.pdf). I have kept the masking take over these strips for the first couple of clear coats but I wonder whether it would be safe or even beneficial to remove them and have the clear coats seal it all.

Any painting experts, please? :victory:

Personally I would have painted those strips the same colour as the rest or removed them altogether if the look wasn't affected, black rubber bumper strips are an outdated style " sorry "

Hurry up and get them on so we can check out how cool it looks :D

That's fine, Craig, I take your point. I just think it may seem a bit bland without it. I'll give it some time on and around town before I consider taking them off. I'll know just how easy it is to repaint, now. :victory:

I'm going to keep them taped during the clear coating, not because I think they'll curl and flake, but because they may form a fracture line with the rest of the clear coat at their edges. Judging by my schedule of one coat every 48 hours, I expect the front skirt will be on in a week. :D

I wouldnt unmask. As you said, I would worry about movement between the pieces cracking the clear.

I left home for a hotel room Sunday afternoon but not before giving the skirts another splash of clear. Then just as I left I brought them into the garage. I've been chairing the AOC Convention, living out of the hotel, using the gym at 6am before getting all shiny in my Air Force tunic to greet and present a bunch of 2-stars and other VIPs. We had a great Welcome Reception followed by a VIP Dinner, then today's day of keynote addresses, then tonight's Networking Drinks followed by a Gala Dinner.

That's about 18 hours straight on a microphone in front of 300 delegates and I'm only 1/3 of the way through the convention. Roll on Days 2 and 3!

So the skirts will get their next coats on Thursday. :whistler:
