Dear All,

Just picked up a 2014 i30 Trophy diesel just the other week and I am located in Canberra, Australia. Bit of a surprise package, providing a very good combination of features, economy & ride. I wasn't really expecting the latter but I suspect the Aussie tuned suspension is making a big difference.

If anyone asked me 6 months ago if I would buy a Hyundai, the answer would have been no, at least not in the top few choices, anyway. Glad I took the plunge because so far it really is a good all-rounder.

This vehicle replaces my Ford Laser of the past 15 years (the first of the Japanese built ones).

So far no quibbles except for the radio reception is very poor. The volume sits halfway and it is just OK with frequent static where coverage is only partially obstructed. My Laser has much greater sensitivity than this. I have started experimenting by taking the antenna off and it is not much worse/different. I haven't raised this with Hyundai yet but I will let them know just before the inspection service. Anyone else have any issues with radio reception and possible solutions/rectifications either by self or through Hyundai? Thanks.

I'd definitely be raising the reception problem with Hy.

:welcome: pug20g (interesting Moniker) One would have thought your previous car was a Peugeot!

The reception is sometimes related to the antenna cable being loose in the back of the stereo unit apparently (but a bit of a pain to check!) See what the dealer says...  :undecided: (some Dealers are a lot better than others)

A lot on here use everything but the radio! (USB, Ipod, Phone, etc..)

Sorry, I should have been clearer, the issue is with FM - it has trouble tuning and finding the tuned stations also! I haven't tried AM yet.

Will raise it with Hyundai when it is next in. Will report back in due course.

Yes, did own a Peugeot as well as some point - it sort of stuck as a handle.

Thanks all for your warm welcome & feedback.

Sure was / am!

When we were set to go off to the UK for my Masters degree I let my Commodore die a natural death and I'd take the train out (Melbourne) to the RAAF base for the remaining month or so. The hand-me-down purchase of a car in Shrivenham was a Renault 21 Estate for £850. It was an awesome car, never gave trouble across several countries in UK / Europe (resold for £750  :P) and on our return (Adelaide) I had 2 weeks to find a car out of the local trading post. I settled on an interesting red Renault Fuego with a view to replacing it with 'something decent' within 6 months.

The car lasted me 8 years with a lot of great interaction on AussieFrogs and a lot of help from the likes of Kenfuego right up until I gave in to Mrs G's pressure of treating myself to a new car.

BTW, the Fuego would have lasted another 8 years - not 8 months- if my son hadn't treated it like some brand new sprint car.

You can still Google 'GonzPlip' to see my invention of a replacement remote locking device for the Fuego. It became quite a hit here and overseas and lots of Fuegos have the GonzPlip fitted. :goodjob:

Good to hear you get into your cars to design & improve on features. I'd be happy to get my radio tuned properly!

Initially was just focusing on FM whilst that is bad, it is much better than AM which is virtually non-existent. So much for driving halfway to Sydney listening to Canberra AM!

Have your system checked. The i30 aerial requires a power supply to it, to work properly. Maybe it's not plugged in correctly.

Thanks. I'll get some evidence together to demonstrate it's ineffectiveness.
