A new and updated Vauxhall Astra is expected in 2015, and the picture above shows how it could look. It will likely take styling cues from the Vauxhall Opel Monza coupe

There is obviously an efficient style and shape that works best. All manufacturers seem to be constrained by this shape, so what's important is value for money, comfort, safety and equipment levels. Compared to the 60,70 & 80's manufacturers have lost their creativity, IMO, quite boring now.

  • Phil her up!
Vauxhall/Opel here in SA have almost diminished altogether, and only a few die hard fans still purchase them. From what I understand, the 'C' generation of cars from them were the last decent models, and afterwards their sales steadily declined. I think VW sells in a month what GM sells in a year, and it shows on the roads - I have maybe seen two 2012+ model Opels in SA, but the older Monza and Kadett's still hold their own and many of them prowl the streets :)

I think what Phil said is true, manufacturers aren't as edgy and daring as before and as a result they have lost their creative edge. All cars these days are striving to look 'European' and to me it is bland as nothing sticks out and jumps at you anymore

I would have loved to have grown up in this era :Drive:

Yeah yeah, I found this the other day and thought, "Damn, anything to stand out from the crowd"

Just ignore the fact that it sounds like a vacuum cleaner

Yep awesome era.

Note the Goodyear Polyglas.
A "belted" cross ply. Amazing innovation at the time.
Also raised white letters - almost nheard of until then.
