I've had a similar situation on the F3 Freeway from Newcastle to Sydney.  Just near the Gosford turnoff we wondered why cars were braking and swerving in front of us.  Sure enough, there was an old couple in a Corolla coming the other way IN THE FAST LANE.  They didn't try and stop, nor move off the road or turn around.  Scared the bejeezus out of us!!
