Hi all, had our i30 Active diesel just over a year, purchased second-hand as a mint ex-rental one year old. Excellent motor, I've recently had 'sporty' motors a BMW 325 which became prohibitve for servicing and fuel costs, and latest was Lexus is200 also a thirsty beast. So diesel consumption and torquey pull is a revelation ... just as the experts decide they are bad news for particulates!
Very impressed with build quality, no rattles, and with road-handling.
Road noise is much worse than previous cars, I suspet tyres are hard for economy wear (ours have 30k and still going strong)
Thanks for this great resource.

Hey simultom.
What tyres are fitted? I think you'll find most guys on here would agree with the suspicion of tyre noise.

I also think that most (if not all) road noise will be down to the tyres, although i must be completely honest and say that British roads are not the quietest on the planet.

As an British ex-pat living in Holland i do a lot of driving on the continent and often come to England and Wales for family visits and the road surface in Britain is, in short, abominable.

The M25, for example, was obviously put down by a number of contracters, all with their own vision on how a motorway should be built.

Basically, even if you fitted cushions to your car, your roads will produce awfull amounts of noise. It's always a relief when i cross the border between Belgium and Holland and everything just goes quiet (Belgium is second or third worst surface).

So, sorry, the only way to get rid of the noise is to emigrate to the Netherlands  :whistler:  :D

:welcome: simultom.. The tyres will help a bit .. When yours are due for replacement read the threads on here about quieter tyres. (mainly a couple of different continental models)
