Hi Folks!,

First off...Hello. I am new to your fine site. The information on here is excellent and plentiful.

I am a UK owner of a 57 plate i30 CRDi, which I love, look after and intend to be driving for years to come. :)

However... I have had my first failure that I cannot seem to fix!!

My wiper/washer stalk has ceased to operate, with no output to either the front or rear washer/wipers. I have checked the fuses on the drivers side inside and also changed the washer relay under the hood with no success!  :(

I have had a look on the forum and have not seen this problem mentioned. Does anyone have any suggestion please?

Thanks in advance,

Nik

Hi Nik and welcome to the forum! :wttc:

It seems as if your stalk might have a loose connection somewhere. I am not too sure where the wiring from the stalk terminates but I will do some digging and see what I can find.

Hopefully someone with a solid answer can chime in soon! :goodjob2:

Is it just the water side of things (ie, do the wipers still operate) ?

Hi guys, Thanks for the quick response :goodjob:

No, the wipers are not operating either :(

Thought about taking off the steering wheel cowl to check connections, but it looks like you have to take off the steering wheel to do so? Not sure if I want to start messing with that because of airbag!!

Undo two Philips screws from under the cowl (look up at the bottom half of it) and it splits in half horizontally with a little shake. Top half is attached by a piece of leather on mine, but that shouldn't stop you looking at the switch stalk.

don't take the steering wheel off, it won't help  :winker:

Check both sides of the fuses with a test lamp or multimeter, before you go to the trouble of fiddling with the steering column. If there's no volts at the fuses, then that needs to be rectified.

You guys are the mutts nuts!! :happydance:

Checked fuses first - all ok

Then taking Lorian's advice, checked out the cowl again a little closer and found that there was one screw on the underside with two additional screws behind the steering wheel that, when you turned the wheel 90 degrees either side, the screws were easily accessible.

Once the cowl was removed, I found it was indeed the connector that had come out! What I noticed upon trying to put it back in was the cable was tight, then realised that the other half had borrowed the car and must of adjusted the steering wheel out to full (shorter arms than me!) which in turn pulled the plug out.

I don't know if the cable has moved, or caught on something further down causing this tightness in it, or it has always been like this.

Many thanks again,

Nik  :P :goodjob2: :victory:

Hi Nik

Glad you got it sorted. Next move was to replace everything between the bumpers...  :whistler:
